Toyota Plug In and ABB Terra Wall Box - is this compatible with Ovo and future PV roof panels?

I am in the process in buying a Toyota Plug In, which includes a free ABB Terra Wall Box,

is this compatible with Ovo and future PV roof panels

Sorry, but that Charger isn't supported. If you plan on getting Solar, you'd need either Indra, Ohme or Hypervolt anyway.

You MIGHT be able to set up Charge Anytime however, if you have one of these Toyota vehicles:

  • Auris (2016+)
  • bZ4X (2022+)
  • Prius Plug-In (2018+)
  • RAV4 PHEV (2020+)

Please be advised that these are under Trial status though. Here’s what that means for you. Otherwise, you’ll need to go down the Charger route with one of the supported units.

Indra

  • Smart PRO1 
  • Smart Charger V31 

Andersen

  • Andersen A2 (2024)2 
  • Andersen A3 

Hypervolt

  • Hypervolt Home 3.0 
  • Hypervolt Home 3 Pro

I can’t understand the benefit of charging an EV with solar generated by roof panels when the Charge Anytime rate is 7p per KWh. I would have thought that the solar might better be utilised in powering the electrical appliances within the house or alternatively charging a domestic battery. Grid electricity currently costs circa 24p per KWh.

Any comments?

The main reason for needing a compatible charger is the billing system needs to know where the power came from when charging your EV. A non-compatible charger will assume all your charging power is from the grid

​@BobTom - I’m with you that all my solar will go to power home devices first and then battery, if, these have all been used then maybe solar. Though could just use a granny charger on the odd occasions where solar charging required.

Alternatively ensure that the home battery is wired up in such a way so that it never charges the car. The last thing you want is to deplete your home battery. There are YouTube videos available on this subject.

Just a heads up. If you have Solar in your property at all, you’ll need to use the Solar Compatible Chargers from either Anderson, Hypervolt or Indra to be able to set up Charge Anytime. Charge Anytime with Solar integrations isn’t compatible with Direct2Vehicle (like your Tesla), Ohme Chargers or Granny Chargers at this time (and will probably never be Granny Charger friendly either).
