Hi All

I wonder is someone could help me.  I’ve have been trying to connect the OVO Charge App to my EVEC VEC01 charger for several weeks now but keep getting an error message.  I am not sure if I am missing something really simple or if it is something more than that.  The app is also saying that it is not able to connect direct with our cars (Jag IPACE and Peugeot 2008) for some reason - so that’s not helping.

I have completed the update on the EVEC app and have also rebooted my charger several times.  We also have a smart meter at home that gives 30 minute readings.

As you can imagine I am getting really frustrated now with the whole situation as it should work.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Sarah

I don’t see either Peugeot or Jaguar on the list of compatible EVs, which would explain why the app cannot connect directly:

For the charger, have you checked the serial number is compatible, and then followed the firmware update instructions here: https://evec.co.uk/ovo-charge-anytime-evec-charger/ ?

Hi  thanks for the reply.  I have now contacted EVEC, OVO and the company who installed the charger as it looks like its an older model which is not compatible.  I was sold it as a compatible charger - so will be taking this further.  Sarah

So your serial number is lower than VEC240700501?  That’s a pain!

Yes - it starts with 2311.  Looks like it’s a really old charger that has been installed.  I only bought it in March 2025 - so very annoyed.  Got in touch with EVEC, OVO and now also the company that installed it.  Hope they can help get it sorted!

Can’t continue pay 21 per KWh for charging overnight when it could be 4p!!!

Hey @Sezlou71

Sorry to hear about the trouble you’ve been having with this.

Do let us know what EVEC and the installer have to say.

Did you do the installation via OVO?

HI Abby

Thank you for reaching out.  It’s been a utter nightmare to be honest and very frustrating.

The installer has come back to me and confirmed that our evec charger is an older (obsolete) model and that it cannot be connected to OVO.  As you can imagine this in itself is annoying as it was only installed in March 2025 at considerable cost (as they all are) and we were told at the time that it would connect to all energy suppliers.

I think we are now facing a situation were we may have to upgrade the charger for one that is able to connect as it doesn’t seem that it will connect to an alternative supplier either.  I have asked this question but haven’t received a response to this as yet.

In answer to your other question, yes I did sign up to Charge Anytime, expecting the charger to connect but have now cancelled this.  I have also tried the installation several times via the OVO Charge app (as I have it for charging when I am away from home) but again it is not working.

As you will appreciate, we are paying the standard energy rate (21.97p KWh) for all of our charging, which is less that charging away from home, but also means that we are paying between 15p and 19p per KWh than being able to have a specific EV charging tarriff with another supplier.  This OVO this works at between £120 and £140 per month rather between £50 and £65 per month.

We have 2 electric vehicles, so any help to get this resolved would be very much appreciated.  Even if this is getting a new charger installed at a much reduced rate as all the wiring, etc is in place and it would just mean the unit being replaced.

Sarah

Hey @Sezlou71

Thanks for the additional information.

Did you have the charger installed prior to signing up? It will be helpful to know who handled the installation and if that was through OVO itself or not.
