Question

Kia EV3 and OVO App

I can’t believe that I am back on the OVO forum trying to resolve an issue with OVO!

I have just spent over an hour looking at the OVO web site (I am an OVO acc holder) and reading all the good news about EV charging and the great deals that are offered.  I called and spoke to an operative and he confirmed that my car, a Kia EV3, registered this year, is valid and can take advantage of the improved tariff.  I checked on the web site and it also shows and EV3 as being suitable.  So, I set up the add on to my account.  All good.  Then I go onto the OVO Charge app (which is the only way to set up charging, it seems), set up my car and it says that, at this time, only the EV6 is recognised!!!!!!!!!  Really?  So the OVO site says that everything works with EV3, the person at OVO said that it works with EV3, the OVO site allowed me to set up the add on to my account but actually it doesn’t work at all.

Having already read a bit, I can see that the moderators will come back and say “not our fault, Gov, blame Kia”.  If that’s the case, why list Kia as being compatible on the OVO site?  Say that they are not compatible and maybe that will push Kia into taking whatever action needs to be taken.

It is just SO annoying, you spend hours setting all these things up and then it doesn’t work and you are left feeling cheated because these tariffs are offered but, although they may work for some, they don’t work for all.

And don’t ask what charger I have!  I have an OHME, which was the one recommended by OVO when I got my first EV four years ago but now everyone says is awful.

Hi @rvintner

I’m sorry you are having problems but the issue with Kia cars and BlueLink mean that the status with connecting to the car is still in beta in terms of trying to make it reliable. There was a previous discussion five months ago and it may help to read through this and follow up as you wish. I know that you want answers to fix this but this is the best I have to offer unless anyone else has any suggestions. As an EV owner I had issues with my car but ended up changing my tariff and just using the timers on the car. It’s not a ‘handsfree’ or the very cheapest solution (I’m paying 13.2 p/unit average over a year) but it’s simple and completely reliable and doesn’t rely on anything being compatible.

Reducing my yearly fossil fuel usage with an EV (-900 litres petrol saving about £950/year), A2AHP (-8,700 kWh gas, cost neutral) and Timed Immersion heater (-1,500 kWh gas, £20/year more expensive but reducing as the gas price goes up)

Hey @rvintner

Sorry to hear about the trouble you’ve been having, though I’m glad to see PeterE has already stopped by with some helpful advice.

I did check in with the Charge Anytime team on this and they’ve said you need to link every thing in the KIA app. You don’t have to do in the OVO Charge app.

To get set up, start from KIA app and follow the prompts for AllDayEnergy, then head to the OVO app where an eligibility check will be completed and you can select the plan, then you’ll go back to KIA app to finish the process.

This should get you all set up, but if you have any issues do let us know.
