How do I charge multiple vehicles using the Indra Smart Pro?

I have an Indra Smart Pro charger that is set up with Charge Anytime and I have been using it successfully with my Volvo for many months.
I believe that I am dependent upon the charger being compatible with OVO and not the car so in my case the Charge Anytime app is a bit redundant but I could be wrong! Either way I never have to think about it and just plug it in and it’s easy every morning

We recently changed our other car for a VW EV but the charger will not charge it!

The car says there is a problem with the charger when plugged in and the charger acknowledges it is plugged in but does nothing

the charger cycles through various states flashing lights in different colours etc but whatever happens it still doesn’t charge  I have plugged it in and left it overnight to see if the smart charging kicks in but nothing

After several hours of turning things on and off in settings in the car, I did get it working once by plugging it in and boosting then after an hour stopping boosting and it then charged normally until it was full and it did it again the following night but then I charged the Volvo (which worked fine like normal) but now I can’t get it to charge the VW again no matter what I try

I have plugged it in and left out and it cycles through various states until sometimes it goes solid green as if it is ready for smart charging to kick in but then a while later it reverts to flashing white lights and nothing happens

The Indra support just tell me they cannot support 2 vehicle profiles yet so just add the car with the bigger battery and it will be fine. Which it is not.

The Charge Anytime app doesn’t let me add another profile and support don’t respond to me either.

It seems that if I were able to add another profile in the Indra app it might work as it currently it works perfectly with the Volvo and doesn’t know what to do when you plug the VW in as there is no profile for it. Maybe that is too simplistic a view.

Any help appreciated as we now have a very expensive paperweight on the drive and I don’t want to rely on public chargers.

Hello @14nls I’m afraid our posts crossed. The charger will flash white lights while it is waiting to charge.

Hello @14nls Can you clarify, is the Volvo linked to charge anytime or is the Indra linked to charge anytime.

If it is the charger that is linked you would just disable any charge schedules on both cars and plug in as required, although I think OVO would prefer you to change the battery capacity. The car does not communicate it just accepts what it gets from the charger.

However, if the car is linked to charge anytime the charger is irrelevant, the car is talking directly to charge anytime, and there my knowledge fails.

Hi,

The Volvo is linked to the charger (has its own profile in the Indra app) and because the car wasn’t compatible directly with Charge Anytime it’s the charger that is linked to Charge Anytime.
the Indra app won’t let me add another profile for the VW (not supported yet apparently) but they just say to add the vehicle with the greater capacity (which is the Volvo by a tiny amount so I’ve left everything set up as it was).

I have a schedule in Charge Anytime for smart charging but have 100% removed profiles from both cars.

I think the ID3 is directly compatible with Charge Anytime so I wondered if it was getting confused that one car was and one car wasn’t but what you are saying about the charger just sending power to whatever you plug out into would make more sense.

thanks

Ian

Hello @14nls I don’t have any insider information on this but for the moment I would ignore the fact that the Indra app is set up for the Volvo. Whichever car is connected the Indra will think it is a Volvo and will probably give you inaccurate data.
I don’t have a car capable of direct communication but I would clear the VW charging schedule, set your ready time in the charge anytime app and plug in.

Hello @14nls I’m a bit suspicious. How does the VW know it’s connected to charge anytime, you could be with another utility. You haven’t started to set it up have you?

Thanks @Taj  I just started to overthink why it might not be working but as you say how would the ID3 know so I think I was barking up the wrong tree there 🤣 I am sure there are no schedules or anything set up in the VW now but will have another go tomorrow and maybe do a complete factory reset assuming it has that option and see what happens.
Again, maybe I’m overthinking it but I’m guessing part of the problem might be the smart charging as in Charge Anytime might not want to charge it when I plug it in so nothing will happen by design but I would have expected the lights to go green and stay green until Charge Anytime wanted to charge but it simply doesn’t do that. The one time it did go solid green on the charger, it only stayed like it for around 5 mins then went flashing white again 🤔

Another thought. Why remove the Volvo profile, leave that in place on the Indra app. Just clear any charging schedules.

Maybe temporarily remove the charger from CA and see if both vehicles then charge ok. It removes CA/OVO from the equation. I’ve done this in the past when troubleshooting issues.

Hey @14nls,

Hi there! Welcome to our community! We’re excited to have you here, and I’ve added an EV badge to your profile to show that you’re part of our EV family.

I wanted to share a couple of helpful tips with you: It’s a good idea to leave at least 30 minutes between charging sessions. This gives the charger some time to reset and get ready for the next session. Just so you know, charging might not kick off right away as Charge Anytime aims to prioritise charging when the grid is at its greenest!

A big shout-out to our fantastic community members for all their support so far! It’s wonderful to see everyone helping each other out. Since it’s a bank holiday weekend, the Charge Anytime team will be back tomorrow if you have any questions about your account or need help troubleshooting. You’ll find their contact details in the article below. Enjoy your day!
