We are getting an EV charger via Motability and have been advised by OHME that we need an isolation switch fitted. Having looked at similar post on this forum regarding the charges for this, does anyone know if this charge would be covered by Motability or is there a different route to getting this installed due to being through Motability.

Howdy @Karen.ian.jones !

Thanks for this unique question. It might be a little tricky for us to get a definite answer, as it’s not the sort of thing we get asked here very often.

I don’t know all the ins and outs of the Motability Scheme, but my gut feeling is that they probably wouldn’t fund an isolation switch as I suspect it’d be out-of-scope of their service. With that being said, I did find an answer on their website which may help you, here you go.

I think you’d get snagged by the Your electrical equipment needs to be upgraded rule on that page.

It might just be a case of you pay Motability the extra fee for a Non-Standard Installation and they’ll go ahead and do everything, or it might be that you need to do the isolation switch first. Logic would suggest the former is what they’d do though, as that’s likely to be easier.

Other than that, it’d probably just be a case of getting the isolation switch installed and then have Motability do the rest. I’d definitely recommend having a chat with them though. Here’s the link for that: https://www.motability.co.uk/get-support/contact/

Thanks for this.
