I am going to start my EV journey with a Hypervolt Charger and I want to use the ‘Pay as you go’ tariff. This is because i dont do many miles and very rarely long journeys, so seems the obvious start off. How does OVO know this and is there an app to keep track of the energy i have used?

Hey @DFC202 ,

The app you’d need is OVO Charge along with the main Hypervolt app for managing the charger itself. You can just pick PAYG when setting up Charge Anytime from there.

OVO doesn’t track your journeys at all - it’s purely based on how much juice you pull down via the charger when Smart Charging and you can monitor things via that and the OVO Energy app.

Hey @DFC202,

Welcome to the community 🎉

We’re so excited to hear that you’re beginning your EV journey and already curious about the important questions! There’s definitely a lot to learn, but don’t worry, many of our members have been in your shoes. While the initial learning curve can be a bit tricky, once you get the hang of it, you’ll start enjoying all the amazing benefits of electric vehicles.

Don’t forget, you can pop into the Forum anytime to check for answers to your questions. There's a good chance someone else may have already asked, and if not, our wonderful community is always here to lend a helping hand.

To keep track of your energy use and charging, whether at home or out and about, be sure to check out the OVO Charge app. It’s really helpful, and I've linked some great resources for you to explore.

We want to make it easy for you to understand your energy use and billing! When you charge your EV, we track how much energy you've used and add that as a credit to your account. If you're curious to learn more, check out the article linked at the bottom. I’ve also included a helpful quote from the article that explains how the Pay As You Go crediting feature works.

All the electricity you use in your home and for smart charging will initially be charged at your standard home electricity rate. This is the rate you’ll see in your balance and on your bill.

At the end of the month, we’ll work out how much energy you've used to smart charge your EV. We'll use this to calculate how much credit we need to add to your account. This will be applied in the following month.

I hope you find this helpful and any more questions please let us know.
