Does anyone else have a Project EV charger and uneventfully using the Project EV app?

For over a year that's what I did, got home plugged car in and the timer set in my car (Nissan Leaf e+) used the off peak electricity kindly provided to me by OVO.

A few weeks back Project EV sent an email suggesting I migrate to Electric Miles, which I did. Setup wasn't straightforward,  but it was manageable, however  its reliability causes anxiety.

Now when I plug in I don't know if I'll wake to a night without charge,  like this morning. I went to the Electric Miles app and it's asking me to add a charger (already done, more than once).

To be fair, their Support does respond, but not always with a solution. Some replies have been to the effect of stating awareness of a problem and working on it.

Is it just me?

Hi @Heskie - good question this. What sort of issues are you seeing with it?

Let me put the feelers out to see if we can find any EV members here using that project EV app…

@M.isterW @tony1tf @Simonsalad @Gum168 @hydrosam - this is a long shot but if you don’t use the project EV charger / app, do you remember anyone who does?

I don't use the Electric Miles app - only Kaluza with a smart charger. That's just doing solar now since I let the Anytime Drive  contract lapse. It has issues with continuing to charge when the sun goes in, and regularly crashing.

Thanks Tim,

The main issue was plugging the car in and realising in the morning that it had not received a charge.

The Project EV charger was now being managed by the Electric Miles app (on Project EV recommendation).

From the other day I am now back on the Project EV App.

Electric Miles Support is good at communicating (see a couple of messages copied below, so it seems not just to have been me) but the app itself seems to have some steps to go to be fully stable and reliable.

We would like to apologise for the continuing issues you may be experiencing charging your EV with the Electric Miles app. We would like to apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

While we are making the necessary fixes, it is our number one priority to enable you to charge your car reliably and as a temporary measure we are recommending that you use Plug and Charge. We’ll be in touch when you can use the Electric Miles app again.

Due to the manufacturing issues - we have sent your charger back to the Project EV app, so you should be able to use the Project EV app, could you please check to see if it is showing under Available on the app?

We are a software company, and sometimes we cannot control firmware issues, we are working closely with Project EV to resolve this matter and would love to have you back on our app.]

It does sometimes feel like the early (and not always so early) days of Windows when issues only became evident through use in particular situations and configurations, we are all gamma testers now!

Hi @Tim_OVO

I just use a standard wall charger at home and set a timing window in the car to only allow charging between 00:30-04:30 (Octopus’s off-peak Window). It’s a bit of a pain when I forget to take it off when using a public charger during the day (only done it once) but for the most part it’s very reliable.

On the Nissan Leaf there is a setting on the charging Timers to only use them at home (like you, I have mine set for the off-peak) - do you have something similar buried in the menu structure on the Kia (it wasn’t obvious to me initially on the Leaf).

Oh, thanks @Heskie. I will take a look through the settings. 👍

Hi , does the project ev apex 7.3kw link with the OVO app , so you can see separate on bills via a smart meter ?

Not at this time IIRC.
