Charge Anytime Newbie: how long should the app show "planning your next charge" status?

Hi all,

I’m a newbie to EVs and have just plugged my car into my Hypervolt Home Pro 3 and set my ready by time to 8pm this evening.

The Charge Anytime app is displaying a status message of “Planning your next charge” but I’m curious how long this should be in this status and I’m wondering how soon it’ll start to charge the car.

Any help would be warmly welcomed. Thanks.

Howdy @sb123 ,

I don’t think we’ve seen this one before! So to make sure I get it right, I’ve had a chat with the Charge Anytime team. If you ever need to speak to them, you can reach them in seconds on 0330 175 9678. My answer here is based on their response (thank you!).

It sounds like this might be your first charge session with Charge Anytime? If the system hasn’t seen your charging before, it needs time to learn so the first charge may not be perfect, but it’ll improve as the system learns from your charging habits.

The team believes it may have found a slot already and is waiting for the start time to arrive, at which point it should begin to fire the start charging command. This could be any point up to 8pm this evening in your case. Keep an eye on it and it could start the session anytime between now and then, but it’s possible it might struggle a bit for this first charge session because you might have set quite the challenge.

Are you able to extend the Ready By time a bit?

Either way, the team agrees that the messaging could be clearer as to when the next charge will commence - they’ll look into making it more transparent.

UPDATE:

I’m an idiot: it was user-error on my part...my fat fingers must’ve touched the tiny pause icon in the Hyeprvolt app….I mean, it’s tiny so how I managed to press it when I can barely see it is some achievement in itself! 🙄

Anyway: I’ve pressed it again to unpause and the car is now charging and I’ll check how it’s getting on later tonight. Thanks again for all the help, massively appreciate it.

Morning @sb123

Mistakes are all part of the learning journey and you’ll continue to learn new things about your EV and setup 😄

Looking forward to an update on your first (of many) successful charges.

Hi

New to this forum so bear with.

Been with OVO CA for sometime (via Kaluva platform) linked to an Indra Smart Pro charger with my 1st EV,  Volvo EX30, and 95% of the time everythings been dandy. Charging fine and getting the discounted 7p per KWH charge rate.

Recently changed to the new OVO CA app (as Kaluva is going offline) and the app and charger are linked and seeing each other fine as far as I am aware.

Recently got a 2nd Ev, MG4, and Im sure it's on the OVO list of cars that work (but not sure that relevant as the CA app is charger linked not car linked).

Issue is when I plug the MG4 in, change the battery rates etc in the CA app, the CA app starts charging (with its usual initial delay) but then stops/pauses, and the “Planning your next charge” message appears. But then nothing. Scheduled the “ready by” time for the MG4 to be charged by 4am, after plugging in around 7pm the previous evening. Following morning no extra charging has occurred. It’s not even needing a full charge as I was only seeing initially If everything was ok. Ironically not!

There are no schedules set in the car or Indra Charger app, so I don't understand why there is no subsequent charging after its initial burst. I thought it was waiting for greener energy times but this has happened twice now so I’m at a loss. Not sure if it's the app or I’m missing something in the MG4.

The boost feature works but thats not the point as the idea is to have as cheap charging as possible.

I haven't charged my Volvo at home for a while ( lucky to get charging at work) so not sure it the same will happen. But I will look at that soon.

Any suggestions welcome.

Another question is – if I set the boost/urgent charge on, but then set a schedule in the MG4, will the boost be paused until the schedule starts or will the OVO CA override all schedules? My  Idea is that if the MG4 isn't compatible with the CA service, then at least I can get cheaper charging overnight. Not ideal but better than paying full rate electricity.

Thanks.

Hey @LJ50173 !

That sounds like something for the team to check out, could you let them know?

Morning @LJ50173,

Welcome to the OVO Forum! I’ve assigned your EV badge so that other Forum members who own EV’s can recognise you 😁.

Did you contact the team yet following @Blastoise186’s advice? To let you know I’ve also reached out to them internally, so we’ll get a good answer between us I hope 🤞.

These two similar topics imply that the two cars should run fine on one login / account, so I’m not sure what else to suggest apart from to speak to the team directly. I’ll let you know when I hear from them. If you could let us know if you hear from them too we’d appreciate it 😀.

Cheers!

@LJ50173 Charge Anytime have got back to me and they’ve said to definitely contact them directly, as they’ll need to go through some troubleshooting questions with you.

Let us know how you get on!

Hi Everyone - just a quick update - by magic got the MG4 to charge fully last night. Don't know if it's coincidence, sod’s law or what. I did plug in the Volvo first to see if that was OK, which it was, then swapped straight to the MG4 as it was working. Maybe it was just an app glitch. But obvs will keep on it and report any future oddities.

Hey @LJ50173

Thanks for popping back with that update, I’m really glad to hear it’s all charging as it should be now!

Hopefully that’s it settled down but if you do ever have any other issues, feel free to pop back any time!
