Question

Anytime Error - Not Plugged In, when it is

VW ID.3, VW Granny Charger - no schedules or anything set in car, charging only controlled by OVO app , i.e. ready by and 80% limit set.

For 18 months this has worked fine, but for the last month it rarely completes a charge.

It now stops, the VW app reports charging error and OVO app say “Not plugged in”. The granny charger lights are all green.

Have deleted and re loaded both apps, re-registered car, reset anything i can find to reset! No change.

I have discovered if I do nothing except click charge on the VW app it starts charging and the OVO app eventually changes to “Smart Charging”. So its clearly not a physical thing or fault with granny charger as it all restarts but may/may not cut out again after a while. Obviously I cant keep checking the app, especially at night :)

I think it occurs when OVO reschedules, before the app would say rescheduling to.. and sure enough restart and do this until charge limit reached.

Now though something has changed. OVO app, VW servers, who knows?

But my question is , am i the only one using this arrangement, is yours fine?

Thanks

and just about to call ovo - if i get a result obviously i will report back.

I have a VW ID7, 7kW charger but otherwise setup is the same as yours.  Charged the car last night with no issues and I’ve not noticed anything before that either.  Might be specific to the granny chargers?

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

This afternoon I sat in car I looked at all settings and I had release connector at end of charge set.

The car was plugged in and not charging, it was at 80%,  the car showed it as plugged in, ovo app said "not plugged in". When I set that setting to off quite shortly after the OVO app said "ready to charge".

I wonder.

It will be a few days before I need a recharge, but I live in hope :)

It's a shame I don't know anyone with a dumb charger to try to see if it's my charger. But after the error if I restart it starts charging straight away so im suspecting charger ok and it's a server/car/app communication issues.

Thanks tho and if course will post if that settings makes it work again. Tho I'd had it set like that for ages.

I’ve just checked and mine is (and always has been) set to ‘off’ too - hope that fixes it! Good luck!

Pretty much the same issue for my Kia Sportage PHEV using a 16A dumb charger. The Ovo app agrees that the vehicle is plugged in and ready to smart charge however, once the commencement of charging is due, the Ovo app reports that the vehicle is not plugged in and therefore my smart charging fails to commence. I have to commence charging using the Kia Connect app.

Thanks that’s interesting. Unfortunately i haven’t had cause to charge, but I will update this when i do. There must be quite a few who just granny charge so if there was an issue they’d report it ?? But interesting and thanks. Do you think yours drops when it reschedules?

I think that most folks using granny chargers with problematic vehicle types have given up commenting as the stock recommendation is to install a recommended wall charger which can communicate directly with Ovo.

There are probably too many unknowns with the Ovo system trying to control the various manufacturers' systems!

I think, based on one ! successful charge changing VW to not release connector has sorted it. The charge did reschedule but I never got the  “Not plugged in” condition. This time it just stopped for a bit , said rescheduled for 4:30 and sure enough off it went charging again :)
