How do I change my network settings on my display box. I am being asked for a 4 digit pin which I don't have?

Updated on 15/06/23 by Emmanuelle_OVO

You won’t need to use the PIN code for your Pipit In Home Display (IHD), entering a PIN code removes the device from the network. If your IHD is asking for a PIN code it could be that the device is having connection issues. If so, try moving it closer to the electricity smart meter and turn the device off and on again.

See our full guide to help fix any IHD connectivity issues.

This advice relates to the Pipit IHD. If you have a Chameleon IHD see your S1 IHD guide or S2 IHD  guide.

Hi Tim

I have tried to reset many times but to no avail. At the moment I am getting estimated costs and this is not what I signed up to.

Is the reset button at the side of the display box?

Kind regards

Lorraine
It sounds like you’re referring to the ‘Estimated bill’ section on the In Home Display (IHD). You won’t be able to reset this part (or the IHD) but you’ll be able to see your usage for the day, week and month via the ‘History’ tab.

After having a smart meter installed for our electric I was given a plug-in display which proved to be a bit of a novelty but ultimately ended up unplugged and stuffed in a drawer with all our other rubbish. Thought that it was only wasting even more electric! Be green and refuse them that's my advice.

It might be worth digging it out of your draw, mrratcatcher as the In Home Displays (IHD) are pretty handy.

The IHD keeps you up to date with how much energy you’re using, what it’s costing you, and how much carbon dioxide (CO2) you’re producing. You can change the screen to show your current use, or your use over the last few hours, days, weeks or months. You can also choose to see how much you’re using in kilowatt hours (kWh), or what it’s costing you.

Are you a Pay as you go or Pay monthly customer?

We're Pay monthly. I find the OVO paym website to be more useful. The IHD display I found to be poor both in quality and user experience and it never accurately gave the information I wanted - the most annoying being just a rolling total for the amount billed - when it reached £150+ when the amount was £30-40 per month was when it was unplugged and stored in the kitchen drawer! The instruction left by the installer I thought were lacking in detail. It was just attracting dust.
Just after I had my OVO smart meters fitted I called to ask if there was a way of changing the default screen on the in home display so that I could have the dual fuel real time graphic showing permanently. I was told that it was not possible to keep this screen showing continuously and 'anyway they weren't very accurate'!

That was a year ago so I wander if things have changed?
Hi,

I have a paper copy of the guide to In-Home displays. Is it possible to get a pdf so that I can then recycle the paper one?

Good query, Maurice - I've moved this to another topic on the In Home Display, to keep it all in one place.

So I have good and bad news - the In Home Display still has that default estimated bill screen, and this can't be changed (that's the bad news by the way). BUT we have a great new IHD in testing, which will be available later on this year, so watch this space.

I like your thinking, green warrior. I've also moved this query to another topic about the In Home Display, just to keep it all in one place.

I don't have a PDF guide to send you, but we have loads of info on it via OVO Answers. Check out this link to see for yourself: https://www.ovoenergy.com/search/ovoanswers?query=In+Home+Display&doctype=answers.

Hi I was wondering when I will be getting an energy monitor to go with the smart meter. I ordered on the web but it didn't arrive and I've no idea if or when it will be delivered.

Hey swelch56,

When your smart meters were installed, your In Home Display (IHD) should have been given to you during the smart appointment. If it wasn’t then we’ll need to request that a new one is sent out. To get this done, please contact our Social Team via Facebook or Twitter and they’ll be happy to put this request in for you.

I’ve also moved your topic onto this thread as a few other customers might also be able to share their experience too.

Am asking this more for my own peace of mind, but does the IHD dual totals reset if/when you renew your contract?

I have just entered into a new 2 year fixed deal with yourselves and noticed today that my estimated bill charges for both gas and electric are in pence, whereas they were previously displaying pounds (having had the smart meter fitted in Oct)
I had smart meters fitted yesterday and then the fitter told me he didn't have an IHD to leave me as he hadn't been sent any, where do I go from here?

This is just a talking shop for ovo customers , please go to the ovo website , or ring them up .

Great to have you so committed to the forum, Gampopa!

Don’t worry though Adenoah, as much as we love that this will be a place for users to interact with other users, we also welcome customer queries on here too. 🙂 After all, we would love for our forum users to share their experiences and queries with one another. Feel free to drop me a private message with your name, DoB and OVO account number so I can add you to the waiting list to get an In Home Display.

Hi Emma,

We've got a great Pay monthly topic on the In Home Display (IHD) already - I've moved your query to this topic to keep it all in the same place.

This sounds like the 'estimated bill' screen of the IHD. This does indeed reset when your tariff prices change. As this isn't linked with the bills on My OVO, I'd suggest ignoring the info shown on this screen. This is a great OVO Answers page showing the screens of the IHD that we do suggest you keep an eye on!

Tim
I have had meters changed - engineer said he would order the smart meter for in home - that was over two weeks ago and not arrived.

Despite a text , an email and the engineers order - I have not had any response - It would be nice if OVO could respond to this

Hi DeeBee,

We have an In Home Display (IHD) topic for both Pay monthly and Pay as you go customers. I've gone with a 50/50 guess and put this comment in the Pay monthly topic. If I guessed wrong, let me know and I'll move this again.

I'm sorry to hear about the lack of response to your texts and emails - these might not have been sent to the right team. If you PM me with your account number (or full address), full name and DoB, I'll get you added to a list for one of these IHD's to get posted to you. There's a backlog in getting them sent out. I'll check on an ETA and confirm this to you once I've got those details.

Hope this helps,

Tim
The display is almost useless.
The smart meter display is not useful.

It reverts to a not useful home page that can only be read from 6 inches away.

The graphical display page is little use. If the boiler is on then it is full , boiler off nothing visible.

Can we have a home display that gives day usage against time as a block diagram - then make that the home page so it can be seen across the room.

I had the same response from my fitter as well did you get yours sorted as i have been told theres an 18 week waiting list?

Hi Pete,

This sounds like the In Home Display's (IHD) 'estimated bill' screen. This doesn't link up with the bill on My OVO, and will only reset on certain occasions such as a tariff change. As a result, I'd suggest you disregard this screen and look online for your account billing. As for the visual display of your live usage, adjust your gas targets to make it less sensitive to your boiler. Find out how to do this here: https://www.ovoenergy.com/ovo-answers/topics/smart-technology/smart-meters/how-can-my-ihd-and-smart-meter-help-me-manage-my-energy-use.html.
