There is an alternative to the passiv hub monitoring which @hydrosam is using. There’s a heat pump monitoring group called heatpumpmonitor.org (!!) which has been set up to monitor and compare heat pumps, mainly populated by installers at the moment but anyone with a heat pump can join them. There’s a kit which needs to be connected to the system first, using the heat monitor we already have in our system. It costs about £350. The data is sent to an open source database where you can look at your own hp’s performance (and compare to everyone else’s).
@RAJ this is data that the trial has been collecting for the last couple of years: Emoncms - app view. So many opportunities over the trial to help improve trialists heat pumps missed…
I wrote a guide for @juliamc to help with the switch. If you are interested I can email to you. And/Or @Tim_OVO could turn it in to an article for the electrification of heat trialist.
Hi @hydrosam and Juliamc
Many thanks for this… yes I would be interested in your guide...this seems the way to go…
how do we exchange emails ?
RAJ
you can access live data going forward from the Passiv Energy Monitoring System. Even though the email suggests disconnecting it, you can still use the system. If you couldn't reach Passiv earlier, you can ask others on the trial for help or look for alternative solutions.
@Jasone Bourne were you able to access live data through the Passiv system? Most on the trial were not, and I asked OVO several times and didn’t get it. I resorted to noting down values on the meters manually.
The open energy monitoring solution has provided what I wanted. Using the existing meters and just replacing the Passiv hub.
@RAJ I’ll send you a private message with my email address.
Feel free to send this over to me as well, @hydrosam - with your permission I’d love to make some content out of it!
So an update… I received a reply from OVO regarding accessing the data...they provided me with a link to the dataset that has already been collected up to August 2022...this seems to be a raw data site containing performance data from all trial participants. OVO also sent me a unique ID to enable me a find my heat pump… there is no other identifying information so the data is fully anonymised.
There is no graphic user interface and the website warns that analysis the time series data will require some python experience…I am not a software expert...so at the moment the data is not that useful.… but perhaps others will be able to make better use of it…
You will need to contact OVO for your user ID.. .the email contact is Jessica Oppong @ OVO
Here is the email with link…
“All data from the trial is being published by Energy Systems Catapult (ESC). The data that has been published so far shows all trial heat pump usage up until August 2022. ESC is aiming to publish the remaining data by the end of the year/early next year.
Below are the links to the data that has been published so far:
- Summary dataset which outlines the efficiency calculated for each heat pump, the data quality and consumption over a year (and on the coldest day) – Open data, easily usable.

- Cleansed dataset which is the data at average of 2-minute time intervals for each property from the point at which the heat pump was installed until August last year. – Open data, need to understand some form of programming language to use.

I will need to send you your unique ID so you can find the data for your heat pump”
Good Luck…
