Why can't I get a smart meter fitted with a semi concealed gas meter box?

I'm told I cannot have a smart meter beciase my standard meter is located outside Electric is in a white box and gas in a brown box I'm trying to get one as I would benifit greatly from one any ideas what can be done?

It sounds like you have a semi-concealed gas meter, meaning it's half dug into the ground, the meter box is also usually brown in these cases.

 

It’s now possible to install an S2 smart meter in the majority of these set-ups, as long as the engineer has a bracket on them to ensure they can fit the meter in to the space provided. When making the booking it just needs to be made clear that you have a semi concealed gas meter box.

 

In some cases a semi-concealed gas smart meter installation may be affected by an unusual Emergency Control Valve (sometimes replacing the ECV in semi-concealed boxes can be difficult due to the space). If you are worried this may be the case I would advise sending a picture of the meter box to our Support Team who’ll be able to check this for you.

And for comparison, here’s a photo of my semi-concealed gas-box with the old meter before the Smart Meter got installed.

dimensions are internal

So, apart from the fact that mine was guarded by a rat, I really can’t see why mine was acceptable for a Smart Meter and @gustavo’s was not!

so if I can’t have smart meter why when they do a promotion can’t it be set to my electric as if I didn’t have gas ?? 
 

also why here why does it say ever time I try to log in incorrect password and it’s kept kin key chain ???

My gas meter is below the level of my house at the front while my electricity meter is on the side wall of the house. Both are smart meters. When the guy came to fit the meters, he did, at first, express the opinion that it might not work, but he was absolutely brilliant. He even reconfigured the orientation of the gas meter in order to make it fit properly (spending around a total of 4 hours with us) and did not leave before both meters were showing on the In Home Display unit. He also, of course, tested the gas boiler and our gas hob for safety and proper working before he left.

Can you post a few pictures of your current gas meter setup? The more pictures the better.

Someone might be able to advise on any potential options that could be explored. No guarantee, but for some meter exchanges that have been refused, alternative options have been found.

You've received some fantastic advice from Bendog and Jeffus already. If you could share some photos of your current setup, that would really help us visualise things and figure out how to install a smart meter for you. 

 

We've come across meters installed in the ground before, and we're more than happy to offer our insights on that!
