Moving Smart Meter

Hello,

My smart meter is in the cellar of my downstairs neighbour. The flat has been sold by my landlord who  has asked me to get OVO in to install a meter in my flat. How can I do this?

If your landlord owns your flat, I would think it would be down to him to organise this - at the very least I imagine OVO would want the owners permission before making any major adjustments….

That’s what I’m thinking as well.

Hey @Imbroglio,

Welcome to the community!

I just wanted to clarify something since the thread title sounds like you’re moving a smart meter. Are you looking to have a brand new meter installed in your property? Also, if the flat below has been sold, I’m assuming your landlord would take care of the costs for removing the old meter since they owned that unit too.

Is it your name on the account for organising everything, or is it a landlord account where they manage it and just bill you each month for usage? As Woodstok mentioned, if it’s your name on the account, it’s a good idea to get your landlord’s consent in writing for the new meter installation. This way, if anything goes wrong during the process, like having to drill holes for installation, you won’t have to worry about them holding that against you when it comes time to retrieve your deposit.

I’ve had a similar experience in a flat I rented where BT had to wire a router through a door frame, and my landlord tried to say it was “damage” to the property! It was quite the hassle!

I've also included a link below to our job costs whether you're a dual fuel customer or electric only, so you can see the pricing. If you have any questions at all, feel free to ask! We’re here to help!
