Economy 7/5th port meter - not giving cheap rate to all appliances

About 18 months ago I had a single (second hand non-smart) E7 meter fitted to replace the previous 2 meter set up on which I was charges a legacy tariff.  I had asked for a smart meter but the engineer told me on arrival that this would not be possible, and offered me the 2nd hand E7 meter which he just happened to have in his van.   The whole idea was to allow me to shop around for the best deal, which with 2 separate meters had not been possible.  Events since have scuppered that but hopefully there will be a competitive market again sometime!

Embarrassingly, I have only just realised that the cheap rate only applies to the immersion heater and storage heater.  Would it be possible to have the meter changed so all my usage during the E7 period (midnight to 7am) is charges at the cheap rate?  This seems to be how it is expected to be used.  Thanks in advance.

We can fit 5 port smart meters that allow for ‘off peak’ usage on the main circuit AND another circuit for those appliances like your storage heater. But as BPLightlog said, it may not be possible with your set up. We just don’t know how it all works over there. 

 

An electrician may be worth their weight in gold here...

Hi @johnlbrooks it sounds like the meter feeds just those circuits you mentioned. There are that type of meter that a circuit switches on a separate feed for the off peak so you would need to get that circuit extended but it makes it trickier. You probably need some good electrical advice

This is my set up with the E7 meter.  Does this help as to whether I could get a 5 port smart meter?

Hi @johnlbrooks . That looks like it’s already operating as a 5 port supply. You can see the split supply on the right with the two fuse boxes which probably is where the off peak feeds separate to the peak supply. 
To be able to use E7 on the whole property the fused feeds would need to be combined or parallel fed if that was possible .. again, you’d need an electrician to do some work after the meter for that to happen. Perhaps it was due to the split feeds that the previous request couldn’t be completed.
