I am beginning to question the benefits of power move ...my last one I earned 4p credit  off towards next bill ...really ....take today's power move between 8&9am.a time. a lot of people waking up...putting heating on,boiling the kettle...what does the company want us to do ...put our lives on hold for an hour cold in our homes...it's seems to me it's some sort of power trip by someone sitting in there ivory tower.....we're not N Korea it's the UK

Well as the Power Move hours are currently 16:00 to 19:00 every day I guess that you are talking about PM Flex not PM.

However the answer has to be the same whatever initiative it is.

You ask - “Who's in Control?” - You are.

These initiatives/schemes are entirely voluntary, and they will not suit everybody.

If you feel that any such initiative is not for you then just ignore it, nobody is forcing you to try and take part.

PS. The very fact that that time is when electricity demanand goes through the roof is why the network regulators (not the supply companies) are looking to see if people can be persuaded to cut back on that peak use.

at a guess, this is a peak time & the idea is to get people to think about how/if they can avoid it.

You’re posting in the wrong group - you’re talking about Power Move Flex rather than regular Power Move.

The whole idea is to experiment with shifting consumer behaviours to help balance demand on the grid. It is NOT intended to block you from using essential energy - for which the OVO Forum wishes to make clear that you should not deprive yourself of critical stuff just to earn credits.

Keeping the house warm is considered essential usage and you should still use that if you need to. Using the kettle however? That can probably wait a bit longer...

It must be said that your participation in the scheme is on a VOLUNTARY basis - you chose to sign up of your own free will, just like you’re free to leave if you wish.

Personally I don’t bother with the flex one as to me it’s not worth it.However we hit the power move every month just by making sure we use washing machine, dishwasher and tumble dryer outside of the hours only on a weekday. We still have lights on, TV, cook and use the kettle during the 3 hours.Â
