Power Move Flex time periods are quite limiting

I have recently joined the Power Move trial but am already finding limitations with the time periods offered so far?

The suggestion is to use dish washers, washing machine etc, but as today, if the time period is only an hour in length, the heating cycle is nowhere near completed when the hour finishes.

i would suggest users really need 2hoyrs to be able to make significant ‘Power Moves’?

any thoughts?

Hey @Tim Goodwin,

Thank you for your question,

How Power Move Flex matches demand on the grid

At peak times of the day there are high levels of demand on the grid. Renewable electricity sources like wind and solar, as they rely on natural resources, aren’t always predicatable. So carbon-heavy fossil fuels fill the gap when there aren’t enough renewables to go around.

Power Move Flex helps match demand to the power being generated – supporting the grid and making the most of the UK’s renewable energy.. The aim is to shift your electricity use to times when there’s less demand – not to use more than normal.

It’s worth noting that is ‘Power Up’ times aren’t suitable for you, there are also ‘Power Up’ events 🙂

Here’s how it works:

Power Up

When demand on the grid is low, we’ll ask you to shift your electricity use to a set time slot.

Power Down

When demand on the grid is high, we’ll ask you to shift your electricity use outside of a set time slot.

Let us know how you get on.

I would agree. However, the time periods are based on demand using 30 minute intervals and so it is not always possible to have a longer window. If you can ensure your heaviest usage electricals are used in the power up window and keep them off during the power down ones you should be able to suceed.

For past 30+ years have run dishwasher overnight and most of the main washing cycles. Leaves little else to move!

I've done well on power move except this month when I signed up for a charge anytime trial and my car was charged during power move hours, so be aware  not to  plug in during power move hours.
