I booked and paid for a gas meter removal via Ovo prior to a heat pump install but the engineer didn't turn up on the day. We are having renovations taking place and a Gas Safe Engineer is able to do it for us instead to avoid a delay.

When I call Ovo to confirm if this is ok, (if i am able to get through without it disconnecting after holding for some time)  ovo agents have given conflicting advice. Some say cadent need to do this (they have confirmed they don't), ovo have to, or that it is fine for the GSE can complete.

We can't wait any further and will have evidence from an electrician, GSE, and heat pump provider that we will be gas free.

Will Ovo be able to register this to avoid future standing charge? Or should i change supplier and see if they are able to register it?

Any advice on how to access an OVO agent who knows about the process? It seems very much pot luck and that there is an obvious training need for staff judging from other comments in the community.

Howdy @Gasfreewannabe !

Only the active Supplier is permitted to do this - you cannot let anyone else remove the meter.

Try the process at https://ovoenergy.com/feedback - this should get you unstuck.

Hey @Gasfreewannabe

Sorry to hear about this, but I’m glad to see Blastoise186 has already stopped by with some great advice here.

Do keep us updated with how you get on.

We’ve also got a really handy topic guide, written by Blastoise186 himself, that could be useful:

Thanks both. We have an engineer rebooked for Friday so fingers crossed.

Unfortunately Ovo charge for this service when Octopus don't, and the delay has added some additional costs to our renovation.

Hopefully the meter removal will go smoothly this time.

The Blastoise guide is really helpful, it could possibly be clearer that ONLY the supplier can remove the meter. As we need pipework also moved the section below could be interpreted as meaning the gas safe engineer could do the removal and pipework.

"The job does not cover removing internal pipework or taking away any old appliances however. If you’d like this done as well, feel free to ask a friendly local neighbourhood Gas Safe Registered Engineer to stop by."

Thanks for the feedback - I’ll aim to fix that within 24 hours.
