Question

cancelled direct debit

I received my Warm Home Discount a few weeks ago so I called Ovo to tell them I would be cancelling my dd due to being in credit. The lady I spoke with didn't disagree with me.

But now I'm getting phone calls from them, and when I called them today to lower my dd as my usage is far less than my monthly payment. The person I spoke with said he could get it down to £90 from £123 but only if I set my dd up starting this month. Apparently if I wait until I have used the credit then set the payments back up it will cost more.

Looking at the ovo app to set up a new dd is going to cost nearly £145 per month!

Any thoughts on this anyone?

Morning @LandellsT, I hope you’re well.

To confirm, if you’ve got a Direct Debit (DD) set up and are on the variable (Simpler Energy) tariff, your rates will be cheaper than those that’d be charged if you didn’t have a DD set up. We offer a discount on the Simpler Energy plan for customers that have a DD.

If you’re on the variable plan, and cancel your DD, then your rates will be automatically increased.

If you’re not on the variable plan, and are on a fixed plan, then you need to have a DD set up. A DD must be in place for customers on a fixed tariff. It’s best, and cheapest, to leave your DD in place if you’ve got one set up

The DD is supposed to cover your average usage, avoiding making large payments in the Winter as you’ll have credit to cover the surplus. I’d recommend either requesting the maximum refund possible on your online account, or lowering your DD to the recommended amount, or a bit of both. You can do this online or on the app:

I hope this helps, let me know if you’ve got any further questions.
