Misinformed by OVO

We're victims of the termination of heatpump plus too. I'm speechless and out of pocket after changing to OVO, getting the Internet connection for the heatpump and, after complaining, a smart meter fitted. Even now this tariff is still being advertised. OVO staff seem not to have been informed of this change, as we were told we could go straight onto the tariff as soon as we had the smart meter. Oh well, off to another energy supplier I suppose. Very disappointing, to say the least.

Morning @Cariad,

I’m so sorry to hear you’ve been affected - very frustrating indeed. I hope you can find a good package with another supplier.

If you're a real person, I'd respectfully advise you to find a job with a more honest company.

I’m in a similar situation but didnt make it far enough to become an ovo customer.

Was recommended their heat pump plus tariff by my heating engineers as a workaround for a long term problem with smart meters supplied by my current provider not being able to send frequent readings (signal issues) in order to get onto their heat pump tariff. Literally 2 weeks ago I paid for the installation of the vaillant Internet gateway only to be told today that they aren’t doing it anymore. Despite speaking to ovo about it regularly over the last month (I wanted to make double sure I could get on their heat pump tariff without a working smart meter) no one mentioned it to me.

So now I’m back to square one and £300 down.

I don’t know of any other supplier that will take meter readings this way. Keen to see how you get on with other suppliers.

there is no such thing as an “honest” energy company. They ALL operate as a cartel, and hide behind Ofgem

I’m not sure “cartel” is the right word…

Ultimately, it’s up to you to determine for yourself which supplier best suits your needs.

so what IS the right word?

Octopus, who are not paying gas prices, claim that Ofgem have pegged the lekky price to the gas price, All the others are charging as much as Ofgem will let them. strikes me as an attempt to keep lekky proces artificially high, aided and abetted by Ofgem

@Ph1l

The issue of high / fixed prices mainly revolves around the government’s decision to introduce a Price Cap, ostensibly to help customers who don’t change their supplier frequently to take advantage of lower rates elsewhere. This resulted in them paying higher than average rates. Whilst the Price Cap has evened out the playing field is has effectively stifled competition between suppliers giving them little room for manoeuvre to offer tariffs suited to individuals’ need. This is not a supplier problem. This is an Ofgem/government issue and if you feel strongly about it I suggest you write to your MP and tell them how unhappy you feel about this issue.

I wrote to my MP about the conservative government delaying the introduction of the fossil fuel car ban from 2030 to 2035. He dismissed my concern and said it was of no consequence but I’m happy to say Desmond is now sitting on the opposition benches with a good view of where he used to sit.

have already complained to Ofgem but doubt if it were sent on to govt. Could complain to MP but not sure it will do any good

If nobody complains then the government will think everything is fine. You might find they will be a bit more receptive nearer election time.
