Answer

How would I be eligible for the Vaillant Heat Pump Plus Tariff?

Im building a new house and need to purchase a ASHP, looking mainly at Vailant because of the OVO 15p per KW offer they have for their customers (which I'm one of)

In order to receive this offer, do I need to buy the Vailant heat pump from OVO or can I get it from a certified MCS installer and still claim the new tariff? I will also be purchasing the Gateway add-on, is this the only requirements?

If not, then maybe I will look at other ASHP rather than just the Vailant range

Any help appreciated!

Butting in here to say I can’t see from those T&Cs that OVO has to be involved in the procurement or installation for the ASHP to be eligible for the discount bolt-on. So long as the ASHP is one of those listed with the necessary comms set-up, you should be good to go. Heat Geeks are just one of OVO’s partners; they don’t have to be involved.

That said, we’ve heard a lot of good stuff in these forums about Heat Geeks in general, so one of their installers would be a good choice in any case.

If you’re still not sure, you can call the heat pump support team on 03330341565 (Mon-Fri (9am-5pm) or email heatpumps@ovo.com

What is Heat Pump Plus?

It’s our heat pump add-on that lets you power your heat pump for less, at 15p per kWh. You’ll pay one rate for the electricity your home uses and a lower rate for the electricity the heat pump uses. See more information on our Heat Pump Plus page here.

What about the partnership with Vaillant?

Heat Pump Plus will now be available for customers with a connected Vaillant aroTHERM heat pump. To be eligible you must be an OVO customer with a working electricity smart meter and a myVAILLANT connect internet gateway. Full eligibility criteria listed here. Hi @Jeezeeh95 ,

If memory serves, you’re definitely eligible if you purchase via OVO and Heat Geek handles the install. If you want the safest route, I’d do that.

Thanks @Blastoise186 , however from the quote I got from OVO for the Vailant heat pump, it was £3,000+ more expensive than another accredited installer that has given me a quote, hence why I wanted to know if I can still claim the OVO 15p tariff if I purchase & install with another company instead of OVO

Just checked the rules - you have to go via OVO for this to work.

@Blastoise186 Okay thanks…. They don't make it easy to understand… this is the email they have just sent me to see if I'm eligible, it doesn’t say anything about getting the ASHP from OVO?:

It’s in the T&C for the Add-On. Try https://www.ovoenergy.com/terms/heat-pump-plus-add-on

@Blastoise186  Thanks, just checked it out… so what I understand from that is that it needs to be installed by a ‘Heat Geek’ installer, thankfully I have been quoted by a local company that are under their installers on the website (plus, being a few thousand pounds cheaper than OVO), so in theory, this would make me eligible if they carried out the install and sale? Their quote also includes the Gateway add-on

You're correct

Had confirmation today that as long as it's a Valiant AroTherm Plus, I have a smart meter and I have the Gateway add-on when installing the Valiant heat pump, then I am 100% eligible which is great news! No need to involve Heat Geek or OVO when purchasing or installing the new Valiant ASHP

Is it still possible to switch to Ovo and then add on a Heat Pump Plus tariff? I have a Vaillant heat pump installed by Heat Geejs.

There are various ways to check if your installation would be eligible https://www.ovoenergy.com/heat-pump-plus
