Hi,

My two storage heaters have stopped working ssimultaneously. There is nothing tripped and I think the problem miught be with the meter.

It’s a multi-rate meter that looks like this:

Is this something I can easily reset myself?

Cheers,

Stephen

Hi @StephenHutchinson ,

I’m afraid you can’t self-reset that. It’s possibly dead so you’ll need to contact OVO in the morning via the options at https://ovoenergy.com/help as they’ll need to arrange for it to be replaced.

Thanks for that - I was hoping that it would be a relatively simple job as eveything else is working. Never mind!

No worries. Your meter is due for replacement soon anyway so it might as well just be done now.

Hey @StephenHutchinson

Sorry to hear about the issue you’ve been having with this.

I’m glad to see one of our volunteers, Blastoise186 has already stopped by with some really great advice here. If you’ve not done so already, I’d definitely get in touch with the Support Team so they can help arrange a replacement.

Let us know how you get on.

I had my THTC and Anytime meters replaced in December with one  smart meter and the Economy 10 tariff.

Does E10 tariff apply to all electricity used in the home?

My readings are yet to be reflected in an updated bill (my last bill for December - January only showed the standing charge!)

Hey @Tigerlily ,

Yup! Unlike stuff like THTC, Economy 10 applies the same rate to EVERYTHING at once regardless of what it is. To get the most out of it, make sure to plan ahead and be strategic about heavy usage. :)

As for the meter readings, I suspect your account is still being updated - check again in two weeks time and it should be done then. If not, please let OVO Support know.

Hey @Tigerlily,

Welcome to the community 🎉

I’m happy to hear that you’re now upgraded to a smart meter and hopefully this makes things easier to manage for you. I can see @Blastoise186 has already stopped by and offered some support.

If you have any follow up questions, please let us know.

What are the current OVO 10 rates per kWh.As available to customers being moved off THTC.

i know OVO aren’t offering it to new customers.

The rates I was quoted in late 2024 are two price reviews out of date.

Argyle and Bute area if that makes a difference.

Would be useful to compare with the present THTC rates. Though the potential  loss of the 24/7 low rate for panel heaters and immersion top up makes comparisons difficult

Hi @Alanl46 ,

Could you check out https://plans.ovoenergy.com for that please? Pop in your postcode and it’ll give you some details - this will not commit you to anything so don’t worry - it’s a read-only tool that can’t access your account!

You are correct in that THTC is no longer available though.

Just so you know, I couldn’t generate a PAYG result for a random PA29 postcode this evening - you may need to wait a couple of days for the price cap stuff to be loaded in and the system refreshed.

It certainly does. That puts you in DNO area 17, GSP group _P - the old Scottish Hydro region.

Because many rates are changing on 1 April, the new ones aren’t yet published anywhere I’ve looked. They should become available at Our prices tomorrow or soon after.

I wrote this a few days ago for a customer in your part of the world, so you may find it helpful:

The big difference between an RTS-controlled THTC system and one controlled by a smart meter is that there will no longer be a 24-hour heating circuit at a cheaper rate. If you have night storage heaters (NSH), then a split tariff like Economy 7 or Economy 10 might be a good option. If you have only direct heaters - ‘electric radiators’, panel heaters, oil-filled radiators, underfloor heating or any other variety that only emit heat when they’re on - then a tariff like that may not be the best bet.

A smart meter can be set to switch power to heating equipment (both space and water heating) only during offpeak hours, so you’re less likely to have them consuming electricity at peak rates. Another advantage of this is that all consumption during offpeak hours is billed at offpeak rates, regardless of what it’s used for. The Economy 10 tariff gives three hours offpeak during the night, three in the afternoon and four in the late evening:

I’ve done a few comparisons to illustrate the relative costs of these four different plans. You’ll see that the cost depends very largely on the proportion of total consumption that takes place in offpeak hours. It’s not unusual for an electrically-heated household in Scotland to use up to 80% of all the energy it consumes during offpeak hours, since heating will always take the lion’s share of it. You’ll see that a split tariff will not pay if you use less than ⅓ offpeak over the year.

The differing outcomes for the split-rate plans illustrate the cost of the comfort level they entail; some customers will happily pay a bit more overall in order to have the ability to turn on a direct heater in the evening at offpeak rates if it gets too chilly in front of the TV.

I’m sorry I wasn’t able to find the rates that will come into force on 1 April. We know that the price-capped unit rate will rise by about 6.7%, but it’s not yet been announced whether this will apply to any of OVO’s rates. The maximum standing charge will fall by almost 2%.

PS Note that the times given in the first table are in GMT. They have now all changed by an hour to British Summertime (BST), so 00:00 is now 01:00 etc.

The rates have turned up today 1 April, so here are the same two tables based on current (April - June 2025) rates and times:

Thanks. Helpful.Am in correspondence with OVO about smart meter fit having told them E10 was preferred choice.

Will have to get sparkie out at our expense just before their visit to swap the 24/7 low rate feed over to the high rate and suck up the fact it will no longer apply.

They were proposing for the time being to fit a dumb timed meter for the low rate feed  but that doesn’t  help as it would also make the panel heaters and immersion boost timed.

There are two storage heaters, the larger of which also has a 24/7 feed for boost which is also on the 24/7 low rate feed so that will go to high rate.

I’m aware the E10 tariff charges all consumption at low rate during the low rate periods.
