I’m in the process of buying a Volvo EX30. I have a waEV1s charger which works well with my BMW iX1 and the OVO charge anytime app.

According to the OVO website an EX30 is not compatible with the charge anytime app. The website says I have to connect my charger to my OVO account. There was a link on here somewhere that told you how to do it but after getting to the devices page the only options were for the car not the charger. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hey @Oldlaw,

At the moment, the Volvo EX30 and waev1 aren't compatible with Charge Anytime! We're always working on adding new vehicle models, so your Volvo might be included in the future.

In the meantime, you can check out more about our compatible vehicles and chargers here.

Does this mean the car won’t charge at all.

If I changed the charger to an Indra would it work?

It will charge however you'll end up paying the full unit rate for electricity, which is significantly more expensive, so I wouldn’t recommend that unless it’s an emergency.

Yes if you changed your charger to either the Indra Smart LUX or PRO then you’ll be able to connect them via Charge Anytime and get access to the reduced rates.

Basically yes. Would I be able to charge  the car using an Indra charger instead

What’s the difference between the lux and the pro.

Biggest difference is the Indra Smart Pro is Untethered, while the Indra LUX is Tethered. Other than that, IIRC it’s mostly just a few enhancements.

Just a heads up though - there are a LOT of Chargers you can pick from! Please check out the official list over at https://www.ovoenergy.com/electric-cars/charge-anytime-cars-and-chargers (it’s near the bottom!) as you may want to explore the other options too.

Hypervolt is said to be the most reliable, but EVEC and NexBlue have gone into hyperdrive towards committing themselves to OVO Charge Anytime support. Feel free to explore all the options so you can make an informed decision!

Any other questions, please feel free to hit reply on this thread.

Hi Oldlaw, I can vouch for Evec, I’ve had my charger for about 5 months. Chose as it was relatively cheap compared to others with great reviews. I like the fact it is a small unit so doesn’t impact the external of the house too much, I went for the untethered version just due to the fact I could carry the lead with me on long journeys. At first there were the odd occasion where I would need to delete the charger from my Ovo charge app and re-sync them. What caused this I am unsure, but quite an easy fix to rectify. The support team via email are quite responsive too.

Thanks to everyone for the support and also some good advice as well. The salesman at the garage is going to give me his car to try and charge it overnight.
