I’ve just received a quote from OVO to install an Indra charger.  It reads…

We are happy with all the information and your quote of £1354.99 is ready to be sent through, along with the corresponding payment link.

We are just awaiting approval from your local DNO before we are able to do this. Once we have received this approval, your quote and payment link will be sent to you.”

As a result I’ve since received several emails from SSEN asking for further details so they perform a “load check”

I’m almost certainly not going to go with the OVO quote as my local, certified electrician will supply and fit the same charger for significantly less.


There doesn’t appear to be a “I’m not interested” option on the OVO email, so presumably I have no choice but to call them.  Or should I just wait until SSEN and OVO stop chasing me for more information?

Are you certain that your “local certified electrician” is qualified to do EV Charger Installs specifically? This work is arguably beyond the scope of a normal electrician due to the nature of it - and the price difference suggests he might not be approved to do it.

If you’re not going to take the OVO offer, I would strongly recommend you at least check to see if the electrician you want to use is listed at https://www.indra.co.uk/find-a-local-installer/ first.

If they are not, you’ll either need to take the OVO offer or use an installer from that list.

Please confirm which is the case. With that, I’ll be able to recommend next steps.

Hi ​@Neilrich1975 , you will still need your DNO to authorise the installation as the extra current drawn needs to be checked for ‘availability’ via your local transformer and cables.


It wouldn't be the first time that the DNO are slow to respond to requests to approve the installation. I gave up my installation process because the DNO wouldn't respond despite myself and the installers constantly calling them for an update. It was fortunate that I was happy to charge at a rate below the limit where the DNO are required to give approval. This was nearly four years ago and some DNOs don't seem to be set up to respond in a timely manner. Not OVO’s fault but there is little they can do other than keep trying so maybe some patience is required and they will get round to contacting you at some point.
