@Mattb555 a warm welcome to the OVO Forum! I’ve added the EV badge to your account.

@divinemadness thanks for your great help here, and for linking the previous article. In that article the best answer mentions:

I heard back from the Charge Anytime development team, and they’ve fixed the issue you mentioned in a new app update. Could you please check if you have version 4.4.2 installed? If you’re already on that version and are still facing any problems, just let me know, and I’ll be happy to reach out to them for you.

@Mattb555 if you’ve had the Charge app installed for a while it might actually be worth deleting it and reinstalling it, so that you’re definitely on the latest version. I’d recommend giving this a go to see if it fixes the issue whilst you’re waiting for the team to get back to you.

If this doesn’t work, please keep us updated as to what the Charge Anytime team do to fix this - it could help other Forum members in future!

Cheers.

Hi,

The OVO team contacted me today. Went through a few settings but nothing different to what I had done.

I deleted and downloaded the app again, although the version mentioned previously is not my download version, mine is still 4.4.1.

OVO contacted technical and they have indicated it could be a Hyundai issue with my app settings not telling them my car is plugged in. I cannot locate anything to change.

so no further forward currently.

4.4.2 is probably on a rolling release - you’ll likely get access to it soon.

@Mattb555 what did OVO advise? Are you waiting to hear back from them about this?

They are indicating it’s a car issue. Which I cannot see any setting or option to make a difference.
I have asked them if technical are aware of any other reason for it not working.

So unfortunately I’m stuck with expensive charging, not knowing if they can solve the problem.

Just to mention, I’ve checked in Apple Business Manager for a domain I manage and according to the App Store/Apple Apps & Books integration there, it’s still showing 4.4.1 as the latest available version I can push via an MDM Server - I suspect the rollout isn’t complete yet so that might explain why you can’t get 4.4.2 right now.

It’s common for app developers to do a rolling release where they start with say 1% of users and ramp up to 100% over several days - helps to catch critical bugs early before they tank literally everyone.

@Mattb555 have you reached out to Hyundai at all? If not their phone number and live chat link can be found here: https://www.hyundai.com/uk/en/contact-us.html.

Yes, used the UK division email and the blue link one.

Both replied with a generic third party integration email.

Saying they don’t really approve them due to bandwidth and security. However the issue will lie with OVO as their app and controls are working as expected.

They suggested going to my local dealer for advice. I don’t believe this would help.

Annoying when OVO knows the upto date and live car’s charge level but not that it’s actually plugged in!

Unfortunately, Hyundai is rather… Picky about who can do what with BlueLink. While they are supposed to support Charge Anytime, there has been various incidents where Hyundai/Kia does something that causes CA to choke for no apparent reason - and the excuse is ALWAYS “it’s not approved due to bandwidth/security” or some other similar blame shift.

It’s kinda tricky unfortunately but OVO’s hands are somewhat tied when the manufacturer refuses to play ball.

Hey @Mattb555,

Have you had a chance to update your app to version 4.4.2? It really helped fix some issues for others in the thread linked above. If you're still running into problems, just let me know what kind of device you have and what software version it's on. For example, I’m using an iPhone on iOS 26.4.1. I’ll be happy to help you find answers!

Hi Chris.

I can’t upgrade due to the App Store being still only on 4.4.1.

I’m on IOS 26.4.1

I would be surprised if it was an app issue as surly OVO should talk to Hyundai behind the scenes now they are connected together via the API.

Wouldn’t the charge should still happen without my phone even being on.

It’s not an initial connection issue as the OVO app knows my charge level and this is a live reading that changes if my car is charging. It just doesn’t know it’s actually plugged in the charger.

Thanks Chris.

Any help is greatly appreciated, bit painful paying full price to charge and I really don’t want to move from OVO.

Hey @Mattb555,

I’ve been told that the software version for iOS is still 4.4.1 so you’re on the most up to date version of the software. I’ve asked if there’s any reason for the issues that you're facing with not your car not appearing as connected. I’ll come back to you with an update when I get a reply 😊

@Mattb555 I'm in the same boat as you with a Kia EV3 that has suddenly decided to do the same thing. I haven't tried charging it for a few days but now it's decided to apparently "not notify us when it is plugged in". Sounds like they rely on some api event that tells them it's been plugged in but that's not firing. Saying that, as you rightly point out the car data (charging status etc) updates in both the kia app (so I know connectivity is good) and also in the OVO Charge app.

It seems that it is more challenging for OVO than I would hope to solve my issue, and I am not sure on the timescale or even if they can.

To solve my charge issue I have changed chargers so that OVO can connect via this rather than the car.

It’s working great again now, and the charger has some improvements from my old one. Not that I would have upgraded.

Should take about 6 months to recover my costs, not ideal but at least I feel better getting the lower price electric.

Thank you all for your help.

I'm in a rental so fitting a charger is an investment in someone else's property (which I'm doing enough of already! :-D)

It's disappointing because it's been OK for 4 months and now this.

I’ve also started to get issues with charge anytime paired with a Hyundai, mines a Kona tho.

Charge app status saying car Not plugged in.

To late to do anything last nite, so left it hooked up on the off chance it would sort itself out, but still showing as not plugged in this morning.

Tom…

Maybe Hyundai/Kia have a current issue with their api or something, but we will never know. Kia have advised me to send an enquiry via their Kia Connect web form...my gut tells me that's going to be a black hole.

Hey @2Long2Charge @Mattb555 @TomThumb

Sorry to hear a few of you are being impacted by this. I did pop this back to the Charge Anytime team for any further advice who’ve said firstly, thank you for letting them know that you’re experiencing issues and limitations with the OVO Charge Anytime Beta Pilot, your feedback is much appreciated.

They’ve asked that if any of you who are impacted check for car updates, software packages and that the cars are sharing location data etc. Also, if you have a compatible charger instead that you can link to Charge Anytime they’ve also recommended this.

Our engineering team are working hard to try and improve the quality of service for all of our Beta Pilot participants. Because this is a Pilot however, there are issues and limitations that we may not be able to resolve quickly, and we are therefore unable to provide you with any further updates for the time being.

If you feel that the impact of the issues and limitations that you are experiencing outweighs the value that you are getting from the Charge Anytime add-on, then they have suggested that you can exit the Charge Anytime beta for the time being; until such time as we are able to further improve the service.

If you do wish to exit the Beta Pilot, you can do so at any time by taking the following steps:

  • Open the OVO Charge Anytime app
  • Click on the "Account" tab in the bottom right
  • Click on the User icon in the top left
  • Click the "Delete account" link
  • Select a reason for leaving and click "Continue"

Your app account will now be deleted and there will be no further connection or interaction between your car and the OVO system. You will still be credited for any smart charging that you have done up to this point. Thank you once again for your participation in the OVO Charge Anytime beta.

Do let us know how you’re all getting on.

Out of curiosity I connected directly to KIAs API and it is showing me the plugged in status just fine.

I really think this issue is actually with OVO and whatever third party service they are using as an intermediary to KIAs own API (someone previously mentioned Enode).

I love how it's so easy to just palm us off with "oh well you're beta" and "you can leave if you want to" .. Great customer service that is. Engineering should be talking to the supplier if that's Enode and asking if there is something up with their connection to KIA..

Just for troubleshooting I decided to delete my Hyundai vehicle from the charge app & re add it.

Re linked my Kona & Bluelink account back in to the charge app & it’s still reporting the car is

Not plugged in, the charge app still reports the current SOC, so it is definitely communicating in parts.

I also agree with @2Long2Charge the approach from ovo "you can leave if you want to" .. Great customer service that is.
