Hi!

I have just bought a new electric Mercedes CLA and on Wednesday OVO are scheduled to install a smart meter. I was planning to get an Ohme Pro charger installed, but I now see that there are problems with OVO and Ohme Pro not talking to each other properly.  What should I do?

Hey @John Colwinston,

Welcome to the community!

As Blastoise mentioned earlier, Ohme is no longer a compatible charger for Charge Anytime. So, when you connect your car, it will now link directly between Charge Anytime and your vehicle. If you’d like more details, feel free to check out the article below!

When you're getting your charger installed, it's really important for the installers to come out and check out your property first. This site inspection helps make sure the charger is a good fit before they get started. For instance, it wouldn’t be ideal to install a charger that needs a strong phone signal in an area with weak reception like yours!

We’ve got plenty of information about chargers and their compatibility on our website, so feel free to check that out! And if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to the community – everyone is more than happy to help!

Hi @John Colwinston ,

Ohme is NOT supported by Charge Anytime anymore - Ohme refused to play ball and maintain the integration properly in a way that would have allowed it to continue working.

Please consider one of the Supported Chargers instead. Hypervolt is said to be the most reliable and desirable option, but there’s a few others you can explore too.

The full list is at https://www.ovoenergy.com/electric-cars/charge-anytime-cars-and-chargers

As you have a Mercedes, I strongly would recommend the Charger route over the EV route - you’ll have a FAR better experience that way.

Thank you. Can you explain the difference between ‘the Charger route over the EV route’ please?  I don’t really understand the difference.

Btw, the phone signal here is very poor, so a WiFi connection will be needed.  Does that make any difference?

John

Gotcha.

Long story short, the direct Mercedes integration is still in beta testing - it cannot be guaranteed to work 100% reliably and tends to break more often than OVO would like. Given that Mercedes vehicles don’t really seem to use Wi-Fi either… Your options are Charger, Charger or Charger if you wanted Smart Charging stuff to work.

And Ohme won’t work for you either - the Ohme units ONLY work on 4G - so no 4G means you’ve got the risk of a potentially useless brick. Going for Hypervolt, Indra, Zappi, Andersen, NexBlue, evec, Cord or basically anything else means you can use Wi-Fi/Ethernet instead.
