Yeah, Ohme were always a bit of a nightmare to deal with - they were the ONLY Charger manufacturer who wouldn’t talk to me and tbh I actually found them a bit rude and abrasive whenever I did manage to get hold of someone.

All the others that OVO Charge Anytime currently supports have committed to supporting their integrations and keeping up with the latest changes - and they are ALL willing to chat with Forum Volunteers such as myself if we get stuck while answering stuff here. Hypervolt, NexBlue and EVEC in particular have been noted to be exceptionally friendly with us because they all know how useful the OVO Forum is and they’re always keen to talk since it’s mutually beneficial. Indra is a little bit more of a mixed bag, but I do have a couple of contacts there who know me and have proven useful a few times.

We do tend to keep tabs on the Forum to see how each manufacturer is behaving and this does get factored into our recommendations - you may see us guide folks towards one of the compatible options in one thread but a completely different one in other cases. It’s usually based on what we feel might be a good fit based on what we know - but the manufacturers don’t pay us to recommend one over another. It’s purely based on our experiences. We’re also not afraid to let the Forum Moderators (and by extension the Charge Anytime team) know if we feel a manufacturer isn’t playing ball and you might see us steer folks away from that manufacturer for a while until it gets sorted.

If you want to see a model where the pay-upfront and own it forever and still use cloud powered features model REALLY works well, just look at Ubiquiti. Been around for over a decade now and they STILL stand firm that they won’t/don’t charge subscription/license fees for their stuff outside of completely optional things that make sense (like UniFi Talk cuz you’re paying for a phone service) by making it so they get your money off of buying their aggressively priced hardware and knowing you’ll come back for more.

Definitely interesting to see where this goes however!

I was torn between Hypervolt and Indra when I wanted to replace my Pod Point. However, Hypervolt do not offer an untethered option, whereas Indra offers both. My untethered Indra Smart Pro Gen 2 is located in the garage (away from the vagaries of the UK weather) but with a cable permanently plugged in. This gives me the option of plugging in my 10m cable instead of the usual 5m if necessary. The location is such that I usually charge the car outside of the garage with the cable going in a groove under the garage door. Only a short section of cable outside the garage ever gets wet while charging.

I have never witnessed such a blatant change of direction from a company that was, at one point, forging itself as the main EV energy supplier. I get that I’m a little late to the party however I still had a VAG offer that has now ended.

And the smoke & mirrors around monthly plans utilising unachievable efficiency figures is downright disgusting. You have effectively doubled your PAYG rate, dropped some TERRIBLE monthly plans that for exclusive home chargers is actually 15.7ppkWh.

I chose my vehicle based on the cost to charge, who wouldn’t? I always expected it to go up at some point anywhere upto 10ppkWh, what I didn’t expect was for you to increase it by 100% for PAYG and over 100% for the monthly plans.

I would be very interested to know the amount of people who have actually signed up for these monthly plans as it doesn’t take a maths genius to work out you’re being had!

Let me make this perfectly clear to anybody from OVO that reads these forums, not only am I leaving you for ANY other supplier, I will never rejoin you, even if it was a 1ppkWh tariff, and I will slate your company to anybody willing to discuss the subject of energy suppliers with me.

You need to understand the serious damage you have done to your brand/image.

You do realise the prices of these things DO have to change from time to time… Right? It’s impossible to keep the rate at 7p/kWh forever because of market conditions far beyond OVO’s control.

OVO is also basically the only supplier I’ve seen that isn’t forcing you to use a whole-home tariff to get cheap EV rates - you can just pick whatever tariff you want and bolt the add-on to it separately. Everyone else will sting you via the main home rate and/or limit your cheap charging hours. 14p sounds high on paper, but it offsets the fact you can charge whenever you want unlike a certain tentacled one…

Given that everyone else has since increased their rates and/or placed restrictions I doubt OVO will lose much sleep at this point over it - the rate is still pretty competitive for what you get.

If you don’t want the monthly plans then don’t pick them… At least they’re not being FORCED on you!

😂 wow, thanks for taking your time to argue with a random person on the internet. It was directed at OVO and I fully accepted in my post that expected the price to change. What I didn’t expect was a 100-124% increase and the downright deviousness of the pricing of the monthly plans.

but hey, you keep finding randomers to argue with on the internet, in an energy supplier forum might I add, if that’s what floats your boat pal, I’m sure OVO will appreciate your dedication to their brand 😉

It’s actually reasonable for folks like myself to strike up debate in situations where we want to and that’s why we respond to stuff like this. It’s not to try and force your hand, but to try to balance the field a bit. How you choose to handle that is up to you, but I would encourage you to consider your options very carefully before jumping ship - some of the others out there may not be as tasty as you think once you run the numbers.

I don’t get paid to do this and I choose to contribute solely because I want to. Sure, OVO does trust me a lot on here, but the agreement is that my stuff has to remain independent and free in that I post as myself.

A lot or people were initially upset by the increase in price from 7p/kWh to 14p/kWh, and some had a knee-jerk reaction and jumped ship to another supplier. In these situations it’s best to take a deep breath and take look at the facts. i.e. put your numbers in a spreadsheet and compare all the other offerings.

In my case I found that I could save £29.99 per year if I switched to EDF Go Electric Smart, which TBH is hardly worth all the effort of switching and then only being able to charge for 5 hours at night. OVO Charge Anytime was the next best option, with the well-known cephalopod costing £90.39 more per year. Since then I’ve heard that other suppliers are also putting up their costs, including the 8-legged creature.

As for the monthly plans, I tend to agree that they seem less well thought out. For some people they may work, but for me I’m better off on PAYG.

A bit of background information from an EV owner of five years who looks at information on other forums as well. When the Iran war flared up recently it exposed the fundamental weakness of the 6-7p tariffs in that they are cross subsidised from the sometimes extortionate day rate. E.ON being one of the most expensive. This was fine in principle so long as the cross subsidy worked but EV drivers figured that if they bought a home battery they could charge that up at the cheap EV rate and use little if any of the expensive day rate. That situation collapsed the E.ON model and all EV tariffs were withdrawn for 24 hours and replaced by a 9p EV rate and a 33p day rate for new and renewed contracts. Other energy suppliers are also moving from subsidised EV rates and the longer the Iran war remains unresolved the more it is likely to push up the EV rate in preference to increasing the day rate because of the home battery situation.

Yes @lukieno1, you can have a go on here at what is a change of position but every energy supplier does what they think is necessary to stay profitable and remain in business and support ALL of their 4 million customers. Likewise, you are free to choose any energy supplier that you wish based on your particular needs.
