Locking an Ohme charger

I have an Ohme charger - not necessarily my choice but came with the car - and after it was installed and I set up the Ohme app to manage it, I found that it was not supported by Charge Anytime. OK, not a problem, and I have CA configured to talk directly to my car which works fine. However, the Ohme app allowed me to lock the charger so that it cannot be used by anyone else. I had to remove this lock to allow CA to take charge of charging.

My question is, therefore - is the charger locked against unauthorised use? After all, I found that when initially set up with CA but with my car location wrong (so not recognised when charging) I could still plug in and charge with no additional action on my part. My charger is pretty well hidden so not likely to be used by the odd passer-by so I’m not very worried about this but I would still like to know! Is there a CA setting that I have missed that allows me to lock the charger except when specifically permitted, or does it recognise only my car, or what?

Hi @Nealeb ,

Ohme is no longer supported by Charge Anytime and hasn’t been since around June/July 2025 - so there’s no longer a way to manage the Lock Charger function via CA at all.

The lack of ability to use Lock Charger when you’re running Charge Anytime via your vehicle is a pesky Ohme bug/issue that so far they’ve refused to fix and probably won’t ever fix unfortunately. There’s not much OVO can do about that, especially since the partnership ended.

You should still be able to lock it when you have no vehicle connected though - you’ll just have to do an extra step by fully enabling/disabling the lock outright rather than the smoother method that literally every other charger supports.

Thanks - I had a feeling it would be like that. I can set up my Ohme account so that I can manage the charger at that level as needed.

I do feel the vibes that Ohme isn’t the most popular brand round here - shame that it’s the charger that Audi provide as standard with all their EVs!

Yeah, they’ve had a bit of a downfall unfortunately. Back in the day OVO used to sell Ohme stuff on their own site and Ohme was one of the options we used to recommend on the Forum too. But these days better options exist so our own recommendations started to flip to the other brands like Hypervolt, Indra, EVEC, Zappi, Andersen, Cord and NexBlue.

Ohme just has that vibe of wanting to dominate control and seem to refuse to play nice whenever a partner wants to do something they don’t like. That’s unfortunately just one of several reasons we don’t recommend them anymore.
