I know this might seem obvious to some people but how do I stop charging the car during scheduled charging if I need to use the car? I’m reticent to just try and pull the cable out of the car charger point, is there an option in the OVO app to stop charging, I have an Andersen A3 charger.

TIA

Hey @BarryM,

Amazing thank you!

I found this online which might be helpful:

1. Using the My BMW App:

  • Open the My BMW app and tap on "Charging" in the status bar below the vehicle image.
  • If you have a charging plan, select "Stop charging process" within the charging plan.

2. Using the iDrive System:

  • Navigate to the "Charging" menu within the iDrive system in your car.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to stop the charging process.

3. Using a Charging Station (if equipped):

  • Some charging stations have a physical stop button near the charging port.
  • Press the button to terminate the charging session.

4. Unplugging the Cable:

  • Once the charging process is complete and the car is unlocked, you can unplug the charging cable.
  • Some chargers may have a release button on the cable handle that needs to be pressed before unplugging.

Hi @BarryM ,

Easiest option is to stop the session via your EV. This will stop charging and release the cable so you can unplug.

You can usually do this either in the vehicle itself (usually on the display!), via the mobile app or in some cases via the keyfob. If you’re not sure, check the manual!

As @Blastoise186 said, tell the EV you want to stop charging then it knows what is happening. If you suddenly stop the charging current from elsewhere the EV can sometimes throw an error message about the charge point being faulty. The cable will be locked to the car (and the charge point) during charging anyway. One reason is to stop people just walking away with the cable apart from the damage that would occur if you pulled the cable and pulled an arc between the cable and car.

Thanks, I’ll check those options next time I charge the car

It looks like you’ve had some great answers so far!

Could you tell us which EV you own and we can see what other information we can find for you?

Keep us updated on if you find out more.
