Question

EV Charging without montly plan

Thinking of getting a KIA EV5. Happy to get a Hypervolt 3 charger but I do not want a monthly plan or smart charging. I just want to be able to plug in and charge overnight on cheap rate. Although I think I can get electricity at 14p KWH? Is that correct.

Is this rate limited to normal off peak hours or something else. If my son comes to stay will he be able to charge his KIA EV6.

It sounds as if I will have at least 3 apps. KIA, Hypervolt and OVO. Which one would I use to schedule charging. Also factor in my Duracell app although I don’t want to use electric from solar panels.
Hope this makes sense all very strange for an EV newbie.

thanks

Hi @Maidenstan54 ,

You need to use the OVO Charge app to get the 14p/kWh rates, but you DO NOT need to use a Monthly Plan - you can just pick PAYG and charge it directly to your OVO bill a la carte.

Charge Anytime DOES support overnight charging, you just set a Ready-By Time in the app to, say, 7am and your vehicle will charge overnight if it’s plugged in - but it may charge during the day at the cheap rate if plugged in sooner. CA rates are available 24/7/365 and there are no time restrictions. You can also charge any vehicle you want - the most you’d need to do is change the Ready-By Time in the app to suit. Otherwise, you can literally just leave it alone once it’s been set and plug-in whenever you need juice, the system will do the rest for you. It’s all done via the OVO Charge app but you’ll want the other two anyway to manage all the other stuff on the Charger and EV.

As you have Solar, you must integrate via the Hypervolt for CA to work properly, please do not connect via the Kia! If you don’t have the Charger yet, Hypervolt can rig it up in Solar-Compatible Mode by using a second CT Clamp. Have a chat with their team on 0333 090 3093 and they can advise on the best options.
