Hi Community,

Hoping someone can help.  I have a new ID3 that is not being charged unless it is manually applied via the VW app when connected to my home Ohme charger.

I understand the changes that have been made between Ovo and Ohme, so have deleted my Ohme account and app from my phone. after doing this I also deleted my car from the Charge Anytime app and re-created.

Now, whenever I plug in, the car is seen as being connected in the CA app, and does start to charge for a few moments, but then stops. If I set it to be ready by, for example, 6am, nothing is then added.  This is now becoming a big issue!

I will add that the one time that it has worked it still didn’t reach the 80% requested which is also big problem.

Charging away from home is no problem. I have used a number of other charging points, so the issue is between the car, CA and Ohme.

Any ideas are more than welcomed!!

Thought I’d come back to this after a few months with the car. I now have got into the swing of plugging in and setting the ready time in the app to, usually, about 4 hours from the plug going in. Seems to work now. Hope it helps anyone else!

Download the OVO Charge app from the App Store or Google Play.

Howdy @evgaygal !

I’d say this requires some additional diagnostics. Please can you ask the Charge Anytime team to take a peek?

Thanks @Blastoise186. That part is underway.

In parallel I have had confirmation from Ohme that they aren’t seeing interference with through the box and that my set up (now OVO and Ohme have cancelled the partnership for OCA) of not Ohme account or app installed, is correct.

Hey @evgaygal,

Welcome to the community! I’ve awarded you an EV badge to show you’re part of our growing EV community 🚗.

One suggestion would be to check that you don’t have any schedules set on the car itself that are taking control of the charging. When you say you manually have to start charging through the app, this could be a sign that some schedule is kicking in and interfering with everything. I can always try to chase some answers for you internally, but it sounds like you’re already in talks with the Charge Anytime team, so hopefully they’ll be able to triage the issue and get you back on the move in no time!

So, I have been told that there is an possible issue with when I plug the car in and the time that is set in the CA app.  If I get home an plug in at 6pm, set the ‘Ready By’ to 6am, there is a timeout where ‘things’ (yet to work out if this the car or charger) go to sleep - 8 hours.

I will test by setting an earlier ‘Ready By’ time if plugging in at 6pm or plug in later if a 6am ‘Ready By’

Does anyone concur or think this is really the issue?

I think your analysis is very likely to be correct. I think something seems to have changed in either VW's charger hardware or software that causes this.

My 72 reg Cupra Born, on software version 3.8, charges fine on Charge Anytime. But a friend's new 25 reg Ford Capri (a VW id4 under the skin, I think) does exactly what you describe - goes to sleep and doesn't wake up to charge - when we tried it at my place. It does the same on his charger on Octopus, frustratingly for him.

Being a newer car, he's got a later software version than me, v5, and probably newer on-board charger hardware too, although I've no way of knowing that for certain. If your car is new, you'll have this version too.

Pressure needs to be applied to VW to sort this out, but good luck with that!

Thanks @MikeyB It s a new ID3 running v3

I did as I outlined yesterday. No charge added between 6pm and 11pm. After 11pm I went out unplugged and then plugged back in, plus changed the CA Ready By back to 6am. I managed to to get 16% added overnight but still nowhere near the requested level of 80% across 12 hours.

My view is that it is not up to standard.  Back to the Help Desk I go.

Hey @evgaygal

After you unplug your vehicle, it’s a great idea to wait about 15–30 minutes before plugging it back in. This gives the software a chance to wrap up the session smoothly and get ready for the next one. We’d absolutely love to hear any updates you have from the help desk. Your experiences could really help others in similar situations!

I’m back!

I realised I hadn’t turned everything off in the car. So I disabled Battery Care Mode and set the Charge To to 100%. My thinking was that CA time wants full control so it now has it with the min set to 30%, Max to 80%.

The first day it worked! Success I thought. Until night two when no charge was added, including an unplug in the hope it reset after not doing anything in an extended number of hours. Day 3 it worked! Will see what day 4 brings but still no consistency :(

Any other ideas?

Some helpful advice from Chris here. I’m glad that it seems to have worked some of the time, but is far from consistent @evgaygal!

My advice would be to reach out to the Charge Anytime team again:

How to get in contact with the Charge Anytime team

  • Call 0330 175 9678 (Option 1 new customers/option 2 existing customers)

  • Email via chargeanytime@ovo.com

  • Webchat, click the link then the green chat icon at the bottom right of the page

If you have any issues getting through, let me know & I can give them a nudge.
