Charge Anytime - Why won't it charge 100%?

I just installed Charge Anytime for my Mercedes EQC 400.

I have it set on Min 50% and Max 100%.

My question:

Why can’t it just be set to a 100% charge, or even 95%? I don’t want it to only charge 50%. I’ve tried it twice and all I get the car charged is around 50% but I need the battery to be fully charge for my longer journeys. It’s quite stressful not knowing if I’ll have enough battery or not when I leave the house in the morning.

Is it meant to work like this? Why can’t I just set the % I want it charged at? The highest I can move the Min charge to is 50%. I’ve contacted OVO but they’re not getting back to me.

Thanks.

Hi @Katja , the Min setting is meant to indicate a low level for the EV so that it begins to charge if below this on connection.
The Max is often lower than 100% as the batteries do not like being held at that level - your manual should tell you if this is right for your EV.
You should indeed get a higher charge level if you’ve set a ready by time.
Did you email the tech team?

Hi @Katja  , how have you got Charge Anytime set up? AFAIK Mercedes models aren’t supported directly yet, so I presume you’re using one of the supported Indra or Ohme chargers?  I’ve used my Indra Smart Pro to charge a friend’s Mercedes EQA 250+ a couple of times, and both have worked fine.

@BPLightlog

I sent an email to the charge anytime address provided at the bottom of the FAQ in the app so will try technical team instead. I just spotted though, in the MercedesMe app, that charging level was set to 50% even though I’ve never seen levels in the app before and charging level in Anytime was set to 90%. I changed it to 90% in the Mercedes app now so let’s see what happens!

@MikeyB Ovo sent me an email last week saying my car was compatible now. So yes all set up on the app and connected to the car. They did mention though that its under development. I use a Hypervolt charger.

Ah, it must be a very recent addition then. Hope it sorts itself out for you!

@MikeyB ive just gone though the application and it says the Mercedes EQA is now compatible so im guessing all the EQ range will be. BUT unfortunately  I Still cant get anytime because Ive got Solar Panels 😭

Hi @Chris78 , the Indra charger is compatible with solar … unless that’s not an option for you

unfortunately I got a Pod Pont 2 years ago so it would be £500 for the charger plus install. The 10p a Kw would only save me £100 a year so not worth it. Unless OVO change and let us use the direct to vehicle & Solar I will have to look at changing to Octopus

It’s not working great. Every time the charging stops, MercedesMe puts the max charge back to 50%. Yesterday I had to change it 12 times in order to get up to 90%.

Hey @Katja

Sorry to hear about the trouble you’ve been having with your EV charging.

It might be worth sending the team an email via chargeanytime@ovo.com or to the Smart Home team at smarthome@ovoenergy.com, they might be able to offer some more specialist advice on this for you. Seen as it is a recent addition to the eligible list, there may just be some teething problems as such they can help to smooth out.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi Abby,

I sent an email to the Charge Anytime team a week ago and still no response.

Hoping the Smart Home team will get back to me or I will disconnect from the app.

Thanks.

my car charging has been great until today it's not charging at the correct times when I set it to charge by 10pm tonight then it's changed it to next charge is 4am but in the last 24 hours it hasn't put any charge through at all it just isn't registering , but I can over ride it all and pay full price  any information please I'd appreciate

Sorry @geordie12568 but without knowing anything about your car, your charger and maybe some screenshots of the timer setup it is pretty much impossible to diagnose the problem.

Just to help @geordie12568 , which charger and which EV are you talking about?

Hey @geordie12568,

I’m hoping that the following topics may be helpful to you:

Woke up this morning and the car (VW ID3) had stopped charging at 80% despite the Anytime app being set to 100%.

This is the first time it’s done this since getting the car in September.

There was an update to the Anytime app yesterday, is it possible something went wrong in the latest version?

it’s showing in the car app and anytime app that it should charge to 100%, so nothing obvious.

The Anytime app is constantly saying ‘planning your next charge’.

It’s ok, it was the car that had suddenly decided to set itself to 80% max charge despite still showing as 100% in the car app!

I’ve changed in the car itself back to 100% so should be ok again.

This issue HAS NOT BEEN SOLVED. Ovo please sort this!!! Somehow the Mercedes Me app DOES  NOT LIKE the Charge anytime app, and every 3-4 minutes the Merc app will remove the desired charge limit back to 50%. It’s an absolute mess, and no known way around it. No matter how many times you change the charge limit back to any desired level apart from 50%, Merc app will override it within minutes. It only happens when the app is linked with Charge Anytime. Once i deleted the car from charge anytime app, it fully charges just fine. But then i dont get the lower price i suppose. Totally sucks. Absolute garbage.

@D4n1 please email chargeanytime@ovo.com about that. The team there will assist you and can reach out to Mercedes if needed.

This sounds like it’s Mercedes messing up though, rather than OVO.

This happens every 5 minute. I believe it is Ovo problem, or bit of both. If the Merc app is not connected to ovo, it charges fine to desired limit, however it does it at the 20/30p price. As soon as i link the car, it will trigger the 50% limit. No matter what level the car is on…. It’s absolutely ridiculous. Driving me crazy. Thank god the merc is an insurance car and I haven’t paid for it… i would be absolute nuts if i did. No wonder nobody wants their cars.

I would probably disagree a little bit there. Personally a black Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ AMG Line seems a pretty sweet deal to get from insurance if you ask me. Especially those registered in October 2022 - apparently they were the best month for that model that year. :)

Charge Anytime only sends commands to start and stop charging iirc. The team on OVO’s side have full access to the logs so they can dig deeper. If you let them know about this, they’ll look into it and get back to you.

The amount of issues this low mileage garbage can has… i rather have a dacia. Driver seat is stuck, cant recline the back, numerous buttons/clips broken, consumption is a god damn disaster, let alone the charging stopping issue all the time. Let alone the fact that it’s basically a prius from the outside….

Userlevel 7

Hey @D4n1,

I’m really sorry for the issues you’re having,

I’ll raise this to the team and see what they advise.

Userlevel 7

Hey @D4n1,

I got a response from the team:

Its a known issue with Mercedes still being in the Beta testing phase unfortunately. They are still working on it.

In order to stop a charge on Mercedes vehicles, we set the in-vehicle max state of charge to 50% which then shows in the Mercedes vehicle and app. To start charging again, we change the in-vehicle max state of charge back above 50% to the desired level.Unfortunately we are seeing that the increase from 50% to 100% state of charge isn’t being applied reliably on the Mercedes app.

If plugging in when the vehicle is under 50% in the afternoon/evening, we’d advise a workaround of checking the Mercedes app before you go to bed and manually changing the maximum state of charge back up to 100%. This should ensure the vehicle is charged correctly by the ready by time.We appreciate this isn’t ideal, so we’ve got our developers working on a solution to ensure reliable charging in the future.

I got the same. It’s basically a bla bla bla bla we have no idea bla bla.
