Charge Anytime Schedule Override

Charge Anytime

 

Issue

My electric car has a “pre conditioning” setting at first I thought this was just cabin temperature but I have later discovered that if the vehicle is plugged in it also pre conditions the battery which is a very good thing now the nights are so much colder.

 

Using ChargeAnytime connected to the vehicle it see this “pre conditioning” as charging and prevents it as it is not a cheap time.

 

Suggested Resolutions

  1. Read the pre conditioning times from the car via API and allow the use of electricity during the period (even if at full rate) and/or have a button in the app to enable/disable this feature.

This maybe too time consuming/resource intensive to configure the api for each manufacturer.

 

  1. Enable a feature in the app to allow for manual “always on” schedule, meaning during this period the car will charge if not up to configure charge percentage and/or if at charge percentage still allow electricity for per condition task (even if at full rate)

Whilst this is a manual method and requires users to program their own times, I would think it’s easier to implement as it is API agnostic.

I have followed the second option suggested by @Ru55 and it works.

Put simply, override the Charge Anytime function by selecting charge immediately.  Then set your pre-conditioning parameters.  

This works for me because I set my preconditioning about 15 minutes before I leave rather than have  a pre-planned time - say from the night before.  With a hybrid with limited range on the battery this is an effective option.

I guess that if you are someone who needs to have the car charged up overnight prior to an early morning departure, then this won’t work as you will not want to override the Charge Anytime facility to get the saving. 

So an effective hack if you have the time and inclination to manage the facility manually.

Good idea.

 

Another option would be to introduce a temporary suspension of the Charge Anytime service - a bit like blocking your bank card.  From a software pov this would simply be a switchable active/inactive Flag I would have thought.

This would allow users to access functionality without it being overwritten.  For example I send a precondition instruction to my car about 10 mins before leaving.

You could try setting a very short time ready by time in the Anytime app and see if that starts the charge straight away and charges to the end. It then won't matter if isn't a particularly cheap time.

Of course that assumes the car isn't already fully charged.

I’ve moved the topic into this Smart home section as the idea relates to Charge Anytime and not OVO’s online tools. Still, it’s worth sharing with the Charge Anytime team which I have done.

Do you know if any changes have been made, as my car successfully pre-conditioned this morning?

 

I will check over the next couple of days to see if it was a fluke or not.

This would work for cabin pre conditioning but not for battery pre-conditioning as this takes much longer than 10 mins.

 

Not sure what EV you have but mine does have a “remote start” feature which also warms up the cabin, albeit it using battery power if charge anywhere has disabled charging.

Update from the team is that there has been no official communications from Kaluza saying this issue has been resolved so could just be a fluke.

Getting sporadic times it works so I would agree with you, that it has not been ‘fixed’, I just think sometime the schedules match up, if so it works.

Hope this is something that gets fixed though.
