Charge Anytime - says the vehicle needs access to internet?

Hey.
So - there are two processes for Charge Anytime

One for when it’s the EV you’re linking to (EV needs internet access)

And one for when it’s the charger controlling things.
The latter is thankfully quite clear in the instructions to begin with - no need for the Charge Anytime app, just use the add-on in the main OVO app (great news because the Charge Anytime app seems to have issues).

But then the add-on process then asks if the car has internet access or not ( but also says it needs it - which makes no sense to me )

Copy of the process for charger control copied below: which says nothing about car control

so - can we use charge anytime via the add-on, using the charger as the control method, or not?

———

  1. Go to the Offers and Upgrades section.
  2. Click on the Charge Anytime banner.
  3. Select the compatible charger that you have.
  4. It’ll ask you for the username and password to log in to your charger manufacturers’ app.
  5. This will link your charger to your OVO account and you’ll get a new heading in your OVO account called ‘Your EV’.
  6. You’ll still need to schedule the charging in your charger manufacturers' app. And after you’ve charged, the savings will show in the Your EV section of your online account.

From 15 July Ohme chargers will no longer be compatible with Charge Anytime. We’ve recently updated the technology behind Charge Anytime. This is so we can keep making improvements and create new products that reward customers for driving EVs.

It's not been possible to integrate Ohme with this new technology. If you have an Ohme charger you’ll still be able to sign up to Charge Anytime by connecting with an eligible vehicle. We’re constantly looking to open up the eligibility to more EV models so if you don’t see your EV here, keep an eye on our page.

You can see all eligibility details in our Charge Anytime page here.

Hello,

If you’re using the Charger route, you can do it purely via the Charger - the EV becomes irrelevant at that point. When done via the EV, the process is ALWAYS handled via the Charge Anytime app. For the Charger route, Ohme/Indra require the use of their dedicated apps (or web app for Indra) while Hypervolt and Anderson - and most likely all future chargers - run via the Charge Anytime app.

The questions you were asked were to determine the routes available to you if memory serves.

Ok, so that’s a wee OVO website incorrect info thing then - thanks. I suspect that page hasn’t been updated since chargers like the HV were added maybe.

So for a HV - we do need the Charge Anytime app.

I’ll try again as I’ve managed to charge my car in the meantime in case the Charge Anytime (CA) locks it out again.

(I tested this by going through the CA process and all went well until the CA app said it was adding the charger). That locked the HV completely as CA was retaining control. I then removed the charger from CA and deleted the app. Charger was released and can now just charge (albeit at 4x cost) again)

that charge has finished so I’ll go through it again

Forums are the answer 👍👍👍
