The list says XC40 (2019-2021 only), I’ve got a 2022 Volvo XC40, its the same surely (except minor body panel) from the previous years all the charging and electrics are the same, motors etc.

Is this a mistake and it should be included, if not when can we expect support if there is some minor difference?

I tried selecting 2021 but it couldn’t find my vehicle when the app contacted volvo.. :(

Try emailing smarthome@ovoenergy.com - they’ll be able to check!

There are now two ways you can get Charge Anytime:

You must have an eligible EV or Smart Charger, we’re constantly looking into ways to broaden eligibility of this product so if your technology isn’t currently on this list keep an eye on our page for updates!

Hi @grazzer356 and thanks for the post.

Unfortunately we don't yet have compatibility with the Volvo XC40 2022 or 2023 models just yet.

We're working in the background to make these compatible, although we don't have an estimate as to when we'll support these model years at the moment.

Do you have an eligible smart charger?

Thanks Tim thats a shame as I don’t think my charger will be compatiable.

I will look forward to testing when the Volvo 2022/23 support is available :)

I have the 2022 model Volvo C40 Recharge twin motor car. I’m confused why older cars are compatible and newer models aren’t? Can someone please explain why to me?

I have a Polar charger at home as well and this isn’t compatible either and that was installed 2015.

Hey @EV Volvo ,

I’m one of the forum volunteers.

Unfortunately, Volvo changed a bunch of stuff in the 2022 model that makes it incompatible with Charge Anytime, as it doesn’t work the same way as previous ones. OVO is working on a solution but it may take some time to be ready.

Polar chargers aren’t currently supported either I’m afraid. There’s no agreement with Polar right now from what I understand.

Thank you for your response.  Volvo seam to have changed lots of things that just don’t work, I despise the Google information/ entertainment system it’s absolute rubbish and Volvo app isn’t great either. I had 2 I.3’s previously and the tech side was excellent.

I wonder what makes it not compatible and if Volvo could do some sort of update.

I’ll contact them to ask.

Thanks again

In addition to the above, I’ve just been looking at my energy usage breakdown and they have EV vehicle charging listed. If they know I’m charging my car why can’t I join the Anytime charging scheme?  They say my car isn’t compatible so how do they know that’s what I’m doing?

I contacted Volvo and they said it’s OVO’s issue and they can’t do anything.  Polar have been taken over by BP Pulse I understand.

Charge Anytime isn’t just about detecting EV charging and making it super cheap though. One of the main reasons is that the Smart Charging functionality controls the charging behaviour so that it runs at more appropriate times. For that, the system has to have a connection with either your EV or the charger.

As for Volvo’s response? I can’t comment on that. But I can ask for a forum moderator to stop by who might be able to find out more.

HI @EV Volvo and thanks for posting. I feel your pain with regards to a newer EV model not being eligible when an older version is.

We’ve had a similar question to this already, here:

Am I interpreting the Charge Anytime correctly?  I can use my XC40 Recharge 2023 with Charge Anytime if I have an ‘Indra Smart Charger V3’, right?

Yup! You can connect the Charger in this case and recharge ANY EV with it. Make sure to set it up via MyOVO rather than the Charge Anytime app.

Hi Tim - we are now 3 months down the line since you answered responded saying you are working in the background to make these compatible. Can you update and provide any estimates please.

I have a Volvo C40 with no driveway, so have to use a granny cable. Your tariff is perfect for me and I want to become a customer of yours (like many other I suspect), so can only hope the compatibility issue is sorted soon.

Thanks in advance.
