Hi all,

Like many customers, I’ve been affected by the OVO-Ohme fallout.

I have the Ohme ePod, recommended and installed by OVO, and a Mercedes-Benz CLA 250e.

I've recently deleted my Ohme account and started charging via the Charge Anytime app.

Mercedes only have beta compatibility with the Charge Anytime app but OVO assured me that customer’s are using it without any issues.

My experience so far is concerning. As soon as I connect my car, it charges at full capacity instead of smart charging on and off throughout the night like Ohme did.

However, when it reaches 50% it stops and shows as complete. I go into the Mercedes me app and the vehicle settings have been changed from 100% to 50%. I change this back to 100% and it starts charging again at full capacity until complete.

When I look at the usage information, which isn’t at detailed as what Ohme would provide, it’s only showing that I’ve used 10 kWh and a have saved around £1.50. In reality, I’ve used closer to 16 kWh and should have saved around £2.60.

So the Charge Anytime app isn’t accurately recording my usage. I’m concerned that I won’t be credited the correct amount on next months’ bill. I’m logging everything as best I can and will present this to OVO if it all goes wrong.

As of last week, the Charge Anytime app hasn’t spoken with my car. So now when I connect it to the charger, it charges at full capacity to 100% as quickly as it can. My car is online and is connected both to my home WiFi and its own mobile data.

I have contacted OVO but haven’t had any response. It looks like they’re inundated with complaints and queries following the Ohme announcement.

What are other people’s experiences who are in a similar situation to me?

Can anyone offer reassurance or advice?

Download the OVO Charge app from the App Store or Google Play.

It’s a limitation of Mercedes Me - there isn’t a better way to do it at this time.

You need to set a charge limit once and leave it be - OVO will raise it automatically when a scheduled charge session initiates.

Thanks for the reply!

I have read this elsewhere and I will test this when I don’t need the vehicle the next day, just in case it doesn’t increase back to 100% overnight.

But for that initial 50%, should I expect it to charge at full capacity to 50% as soon as I connect the charger? No matter what time of day? Because I’ve seen some mention that it may not start charging straight away, it will start charging when the grid is green.

The Ohme app would always delay charging until around midnight. It would also only charge at reduced capacities on and off throughout the night (e.g. 1.5 kW for 30 mins then 3.2 kW for 1 hour).

Using the Charge Anytime app, it’s 7.2 kW until 50% is reached as soon as the cable is connected, every time - no delay.

Is there any explanation for the other issues I’m experiencing? The Charge Anytime app is not fully communicating with my vehicle. It hasn’t detected the last 2 times that I’ve charged it.

It’s not accurately recording the amount of charge that I’m using. Will this affect my Charge Anytime credit amount?

For example, I charged my car this evening at almost 12 kWh. According to the Charge Anytime app, I’ve only used 0.9 kWh.

The outage between 3rd July and 7th July mentioned on the Enode status accounts for some of the issues I’m experiencing.

All I need is to charge my car at the Charge Anytime rate and for that to be accurately reflected each month in my billing.

Looking at the how the Charge Anytime app is performing since switching to it, I’m in serious doubt of this.

Using the Ohme app was perfection, not a single issue. This suggests no limitations from my car or the Mercedes me app. It’s the Charge Anytime app that’s causing problems.

I’m happy to manually record all my charging usage whilst continuing to use the Charge Anytime app.

If there are discrepancies in my credit amount the following month, I can submit my recordings to OVO. These can be compared with my smart meter data and the credit amount be adjusted accordingly.

Is this something OVO could support until the underlying issues are resolved?

Hey @OVOCustomer156,

Thank you for raising this, and I’m really glad you’re part of the Charge Anytime Beta, your feedback helps us shape the future of the service, so it’s really valuable to hear how you’re getting on.

You’re absolutely right to check on compatibility. Right now, Charge Anytime is compatible with a range of EVs and chargers, but as we’re still in Beta, there are some limitations, especially for newer models and specific in-car systems.

For example, we recently shared an update about Mercedes vehicles where we’ve paused new enrolments due to technical difficulties with Mercedes Me and scheduled charging reliability.

We’ve also shared important info for customers using Ohme chargers, right now, only those charging at home using Ohme are supported, and it’s essential that customers set Ohme as their default charger in the app. There’s an update about that here:

At the moment, vehicle app integration (like VW’s We Connect or Mercedes Me) can sometimes cause clashes with Charge Anytime’s smart charging because of how those apps manage charging schedules. We recommend disabling any in-car charging schedules to let Charge Anytime take full control. I can see you’re keen for full compatibility and a smooth experience, which is exactly what the Beta is helping us work towards. We’re keeping the community updated as new vehicles, chargers, and features are added, and your feedback genuinely helps highlight where we need to improve. If you’d like, I’m happy to flag your specific setup to the Charge Anytime team to see if there are any known compatibility issues or workarounds. Just drop me a PM if you’d like to do that.

Thanks again for raising this and for helping us build a better service.

Using the Ohme app was perfection, not a single issue. This suggests no limitations from my car or the Mercedes me app. It’s the Charge Anytime app that’s causing problems.

The Ohme app merely read data from the vehicle and otherwise acted passively in terms of the integration - the heavy lifting was done between OVO and Ohme instead.

With the Direct2Vehicle method, the vehicle API is being used for read and write tasks - it is controlling the vehicle, not just reading from it.

That’s where the issue lies - Mercedes Me isn’t the most amazing platform out there...

Hi @Twoskins ,

You’re better off with a proper Charger in your case. Please consider Hypervolt, Indra or Andersen if you want the best experience.

I completely agree. Unfortunately I cannot have a charger at this time.

Morning @Twoskins and welcome to the OVO Forum 😁. I’ve added the EV badge to your Forum profile.

Sorry to hear that you’re having to reset the app each time, that is frustrating. It might be worth reaching out to the team at chargeanytime@ovo.com to see if they know of any workaround for this.

I know you’ve mentioned you’re unable to get a charger at this time which is unfortunate. If things change at any point take a look at our offers, we provide and install discounted chargers: https://www.ovoenergy.com/electric-cars/smart-charger.

I don’t know if it’ll help your situation, but we have another offering called Charge Anywhere, which can give you discounted access to many thousands of charging points across the UK and Europe. You can find out more here: https://www.ovoenergy.com/electric-cars/charge-anywhere.

Hi all,

Just an update on my part.

Since the error rate resolution was implemented by Enode, I’m having a more positive experience with charging my vehicle using the Charge Anytime app.

I can trust the app to do its thing - it will stop and start the charging process as necessary using the settings in the Mercedes me.

The issues that I still have and would like to feedback are:

  1. The app is not correctly and accurately recording my usage. I have a 15.6 kWh battery and I will usually be charging from 0% to 100%. Yet according the app, the most my car has ever charged by is 11 kWh. This will greatly impact the amount of credit I received each month.

  2. Whilst it’s up to the Charge Anytime app to determine when the grid is most “green” and charge my car, it doesn’t seem to follow this logic. Ohme would charge my car on and off throughout the night. Charge Anytime will commonly charge at peak hours in the evening, stop the charge at 50% and then continue to charge until full at around midnight.

  3. The app lacks data. The Ohme app would provide every detail of a charge. Start and stop times, durations, usage, cost vs. saving. I know most people wouldn’t care about this information but it’s important to me.

  4. There are minimal control features on the Charge Anytime app. It’s not possible to stop or pause the charge via the app. You can’t set schedules. If I get home in the afternoon, I must refrain from connecting the charging cable until later that evening. Otherwise charging will start instantly during peak hours.

  5. I keep receiving emails stating “your typical ‘ready-by’ time is 10:00, please extend this by a minimum of 1 hour to help the grid”. I’ve not once had my ready-by time set to 10:00 so I don’t know where this data is being collected from. And usually, my ready-by time is well past 10:00 as part of the Power Move Flex trial.

@Ben_OVO

can you please contact me.

not only is the app logging me out and deleting CA from my account, when I reinstalled the app it now won’t let me log into Kalua with the same credentials I’ve been using all along.

This is getting bloody ridiculous and I think a complaint needs to be raised to the ombudsman.
