BMW X5 50e Starts Charging but not connecting to OVO Smart Charge

I have a ‘Pod Point’ Charger which ive set to ‘Manual’ and my BMW X5 50e app to ‘Charge Immediately’ (beware the app seems to set back to a random charging schedule sometimes) and it starts to charge but my OVO App still shows ‘Plug in Vehicle’ for up to 45 minutes meaning that I’m charging on full price rather than 7p/kwh. Any advice please?

I’ve added the EV badge to your profile. I’m not quite sure on this one, so have asked internally for some advice. In the meantime I’d recommend contacting our Charge Anytime team by email (chargeanytime@ovo.com) or by phone (0330 175 9678). Between us we should get an answer hopefully.

Cheers Ben - I have spoken to the OVO Smart Charge Team yesterday and they said to make sure I wait 5 minutes or so for the BMW App to notify my OVO app that my vehicle was charging, which made sense. However 40 minutes later the car was still charging with no recognition on the OVO app! I stopped charging and then recommenced this morning and the OVO app showed recognition after about 5 minutes! Possibly an intermittent issue! I’ll try reloading the BMW app as they suggested (‘Do Not Delete the OVO app they suggested!!) and see where that gets me? I’ll report back if resolved.

Hi Ben - charged only once since reinstall and it took about 5 minutes so fingers crossed.

@SimonB663 great news, let’s hope it stays that way. If you’ve got the option on your device it’s a good idea to set your apps to auto-update. That’ll mean you’ll always be running the latest version.

Hi Ben - I see the old Smart Charge app has been updated with a new app which I’ve downloaded. Still seems to be a lag where OVO isn’t registering but car is actually charging. App says leave for 30 mins which I did and I see it connected later. I suppose the leap of faith is trusting that it’s not charging at full rate until the app kicks in? I’ll do some reconciliation on charging times if I can. 
 

one more note, the new app doesn’t recognise my car a BMW X5 whereas the old app did!

Hmmm I’m unsure of this one ​@SimonB663 as the app is so new. I’d recommend calling in to Charge Anytime for this on 0330 175 9678 - hopefully they can explain things.
