Ok so this seems to be a problem with Audis after doing some research. I have a project ev charger and after doing through all the options I can’t get the app to charge via the smart charge. So annoying. You connect it to the car, the app says it’s connected you tell it when you want it charged by and it does nothing all night. Even when you press for an urgent charge it doesn’t work. Contacted the support email, not much help to be honest. Anyone sorted this problem out?
Scratch that, MyAudi refreshed fine but Anytime app is still showing wrong update time (2 hours ago) so looks like issue with Anytime app. I won’t delete until Support come back to me.
In that case it’s probably MyAudi that’s messing up rather than Charge Anytime. Might be worth talking to Audi, but OVO’s team will investigate their side anyway.
Does your hive charger have a smart charge setting? This needs to be enabled with times scheduled at night. Mine had the best charge to date last night but stopped charging around 3.30am for some reason.
Hi All,
Thank you for you help yesterday. Starting a manual charge from the Car seems to have kicked everything into life. Not sure if this was an issue with the Anytime app or the Audi app but all working great now.
Thank you!
Manish
Ok so the latest update……
so we are charging on the reduced rate much better now, it’s not perfect but it’s working.
after going into the project ev charger app and connecting it to our WiFi we can change the settings to charge via smart charging as in via a schedule. Once I had done that the anytime app seemed to work better. I must admit I do set the ready by time to about 12.30-1am so that the charge starts around 7pm ish. Last night we went from 40% to 80% so I am happier. If I set the ready by time to say 5am then it won’t start charging till 11pm and I will be asleep by then and I won’t know if it’s doing it’s jobs properly so I don’t want to risk it.

Personally I think that is a reasonable approach in the circumstances. You are still charging outside the peak evening period.
Just out of interest do you need the WiFi connected to the anytime app for it to update and work?

It would probably help if you did. :)

Hi Ian,
Found your comments very useful. I’ve just got an Audi etron 2020 with a Project EV charger. Some questions over the compatibility of my car despite the online tool saying otherwise. The car has connected to the Charge Anytime App okay, and the app had scheduled charges but doesn’t seem to be kicking anything off.
With me not being sure about the car’s compatibility itself, I want to make sure everything in the Project EV app is set up correctly. Where did you change the charger’s setting to charge via smart charging please? Was this within the app and it so, whereabouts?
appreciate any help you can give.
thanks
Hi,
ok I will check exactly where it is on the app when my wife gets home as it’s in her phone. Are you connected to the project ev app via your home wifi? I assume you are and it’s displaying information on the homepage of it. By memory you click the top right hand menu and the smart settings are in there. I have to still set my car to finish charging at about 1am to get it to start charging from 7.30pm ish. If I set it to say 5am it doesn’t like it and after midnight won’t charge the car.
Thanks for quick response!
Yes, connected to the Wi-Fi and using the Project EV app. Only reference to smart charging that I can see is within charger settings> EV Smart Regulations.
You can set charging time periods in here if the setting is enabled but I currently have this turned off. I’ve attached a photo (if it works). Is this what you are referring to? If so, is this where you have set your 7.30pm - 1am time frame? And when you do this, does the Charge Anytime app work / push through at the smart rate? I would have thought that setting timers would restrict the smart charging but if you’re having success with it and still getting your credits, I’ll give it a go!
The comments here are intriguing.
Generally when you are using Charge Anytime with a compatible EV but not a compatible charger, the instructions suggest only using the Charge Anytime app .. not the charger app.
Does this not work for you?
Yep that’s the settings pal, I changed the times so it covers the whole 24hr period. Turn that on and it should work

yes you only use the anytime app from now on but you need to tell the charger that you want to smart charge
Okay, thanks mate.
I’ve set it to 00:00-00:00, think that’s correct?
Had a charge scheduled last night and got 1.4kWh… although I Hadn’t made the changes you suggested then so hopefully some more luck tonight.
thanks for you help
What time was your charge set for? I set my times for one during the day and then one at night so say one at 10am to 5pm then 5pm right through the night till 10am again. So it knows to smart charge at night.
The charge was set to run 11pm to 5.30am, seemed to kick in briefly at some point but didn’t last very long. So short my Project EV app didn’t pick it up but the charge anytime app did.
Makes sense though what you have said, covering a full 24hr period. I’ll do the same.
Do you get this message saying there’s a period with no power?
Not sure if that message comes up. I will check tonight.
I would set the finish time to 1am, then if you plug it in around say 6pm it should start charging about 7 ish maybe 7.30 then go off at 8 and back on again later but the majority of the charge is being done early to late evening. That way you get some charge before the morning so you can actually use the car to go to work etc.
Thanks, Ian. Really helpful.
Will let you know how it goes tonight!

Brilliant to see such helpful advice from

FYI - just in case anyone else is still struggling and reading this. I had no success last night despite the setting changes on the Project EV app and the confirmation from OVO that Audi issues have been resolved.
I’ll keep tweaking my settings to see if there’s a sweet spot and pass the info on in case it’s of use to anyone else else
O dear that’s a shame, I checked the project ev app and I don’t get that message you got. Although when I looked at the smart settings in the app they were not enabled which was weird.
Do you get that green dot or is it yellow? This means the car and app are talking to each other. It should update fairly regularly.
Yeah, it’s green most of the time (actually not sure if I’ve ever seen it yellow). The car is away and not plugged in and it’s last updated roughly 45mins ago.
I’ve asked OVO for some more support as it seems everything should be working
Hey
I’m sorry to hear you’re still having issues,
If you’re able to pop back with an update once chargeanytime@ovoenergy.com replies that might be really helpful to other community members on this topic thread.
