Hi all,

New to the forum and to solar panels.  This isn’t really my area, so I apologise in advance if any of these questions don’t make sense.

We got a combined ASHP and solar panel setup last week and they finally got the solar panels up and running yesterday.  There’s an issue with the battery, but they’re getting that sorted out with the supplier.

Our system is using:

Solis Hybrid invertor (Rhi 5kw Hybrid Single Phase)
V-TAC 5kw battery (VT48100E)
10 x 410w V-TAC half mono solar panels (VT-410B)

I have a couple of questions though:

1 - I noticed on the SolisCloud app that generated and consumed energy figures are the same.  Is this because we currently don’t have a battery and aren’t exporting to grid?

2 - The app shows used from as being 0, but I know there has been times when we pulled from the grid yesterday.

3 - When we are no longer generating power from the panels (ie at night) the invertor switches off.  Should that happen?

Sorry if any these seem obvious, but I really have no clue.  The installer says that he’s never installed this kind of system so he’s learning as he goes (which is a worry).

I’ve included some images.

Thanks

Alex

Hi @AlexGoldie and welcome to this customer forum.
1. Generation and Consumption - if you can use what you generate, then that is the best result however, as you say, there will be times (especially without batteries) when you will draw from the grid. What happened overnight? Did your system show grid draw then? If the grid draw during the day is a short duration, your system may not catch the event as it is only sampling every few minutes.
3. Overnight - depending on the setup, your inverter will not be generating (no sun) so it will look like it’s off.

Perhaps due to the batteries yet to be properly installed , things aren’t fully set up. The monitoring can be a problem if the installer doesn’t understand it. There will be a manual to indicate where sensors need to be installed.  Something like this -
https://www.ginlong.com/uploads/file/Solis_Manual_RHI(3-6)K_5G_ENX_V1.1_nl.pdf

In particular, it’s important that if there’s a CT it is positioned and oriented the correct way

From the above manual

Several people on the forum use a similar system so there will be others who can guide. I have solar plus batteries (plus an off grid system with a small wind turbine) so have been through some of your questions myself. It is true that many installers don’t fully understand hybrid systems, especially those with multiple technologies
