About a year ago I saw an American portable solar panelled battery that looked like suitcase trolley when closed but open the panels and it could store about 3kw of solar. Any idea what it was called? Can I still get it? I seem to recall that the name was Waco or similar.

Can OVO help with self home generation without stick a load of panels etc on my roof?

I have no gas, no boiler, no servicing, no water filled radiators. Can’t have a heat pump. Have no emissions. Is this the way to go? Free home generated electricity, yes please.

I have a hybrid EV. £34 petrol on 14th March, 319 miles of range.

Today I have 304 miles of range with 487 miles covered and a free charge at supermarket.

Beat it???

There are several portable battery systems available like this Ecoflow Delta

The main problem with this type of set up is that the foldout panels are often rather limited in generation and are usually not optimised for solar.
If a roof system is not an option, there are systems for ground, wall and other fittings although a fully portable system is useful too.
Often not as efficient as a fully installed system though

Hey @stuartfoster3

I hope BPLightlog’s reply was helpful to you, hopefully that’s the one you meant but it sounds like regardless of the make, these similar portable models will face the same problems BPLightlog mentioned.

Do pop back and let us know if it’s something you end up considering and how you get on with it all.🙂

Thank you for your reply.

A roof system is the way to go if you want to offset the cost of your household electricity. £10,000 or so and takes a few years to recuperate.

I want something that can help charge my EV, phone, laptop etc. I can wheel it out on a nice day get some charge and dump it in my car battery.

The one I saw a few years ago had a 400 watt foldable panel and a 3kw battery on a trolley for about £1,500.. Can’t remember the name… If i got three charges on a good day that’s my car ready for the following day for free.

Was it perhaps WAECO? They seem to sell portable 12V solar PV/battery systems in Australia; perhaps this rings a bell: Waeco Portable Solar Panels (youtube.com)
