Why are OVO so limited on EV smart chargers compatible with Charge Anytime add on?

Just a quick heads-up, we’re planning to extend Drive Anytime eligibility in the near future. Check out the thread below for the latest updates:
 

i appreciate the feedback, but as my contract ends shortly i need to understand a timeframe for FORD cars/App being “connected” to the EV Anytime system.

As Ford is compatible with the Intelligent Octopus tariff it may suggest that it's one of the easier makes to get working with systems like +Anytime. I agree a better idea on timescales would be beneficial for everyone.

Being impartial, I would maybe suggest locking in a decent EV rate now before they go up again (I have a feeling this could be soon). Then you could always move to +Anytime as soon as your setup is compatible.

The OVO-supported list of chargers is very limiting. I looked carefully before ordering my charger, which is in an exposed position and out of wifi range. The Indra ones all need wifi. The Ohme one can work on cellphone, but has buttons to press and text displays when you have pressed them - not sensible when people are walking by all day and night. So I bought an Easee - no buttons, no display and uses cellphone. And yes, the makers claim it is fully smart. 

My Fiat 500e isn’t on the list of supported cars either (probably too new...) so I am stuck either way.

To be fair, I moved to OVO to sort out the smart meters on my home, and they are giving me proper information from the electricity meter.

Hello, 6 months later, is there more cars or more visibility for additional chargers?

Easee do have remote control and power consumptions details, yet it is still not in the list.

I have been onto 5 different people at OVO over 3 hours to tell them that my mobile, Laptop or computer is unable to connect to Kaluza to charge my car, The last person I spoke to was ASHA in customer services who told me that OVO no longer offer the Charge Anytime service. I am very dissapointed, I have had to charge my car on the last 3 occassions without being able to connect to Kaluza, I am very dissapointed. Ron

Yep I’m not sure on the advice you were given there, @Ron Pretty - Anytime has been relaunched to Charge Anytime which you can find details on via our Charge Anytime page here.

You must be an OVO Energy customer and have an eligible car or charger.

Why is it so difficult for OVO to give a time frame on the cars that will be compatible? You wills see many moving to Octopus at this rate. The Anytime tariff is great and I want to stay with OVO but i am not going to pay 35p per kwh to charge at home when I can get 10p at Octopus.

It’s the Range Rover Evoque P300e (PHEV). The Jaguar equivalent is the E-pace PHEV 2019+

I have an Easee charger as well which can be remotely managed.

Thanks @AKAFlash yep I can see that’s on the list of PHEVs currently not supported. 

Likewise with Easee we’re working with manufacturers to unlock compatibility for as many as we can, as fast as they allow. 

Thanks Tim. It’s just odd that Jaguar models are and Land Rover models are not. They are the same company, using the same software and technology.

You could argue the same between Nissan (one of the pioneer in EV and with wome best seller car for years with Tesla), which is totally absent from the list and Renault… both the same company.

I guess this is when you learn they are not sharing that much after all. :-)

I’d like to ask the Community Managers when the Fiat 500e (2nd Gen) will be added to the Charge Anytime without the need of installing a compatible charger. On average I only travel around 5000 miles per year, therefore the cost of the charger install would take approximately 7 years to recoup (hopefully my maths are correct).

Unfortunately there are no timings that OVO generally provide for their release list.

Of course the other consideration might be if you were to change in the future - a compatible charger would ensure are best placed to continue to use the system
