Hello. I’ve heard people talk about off-peak electricity and so have been running the dishwasher and washing machine at night, but now I’m wondering if I just pay the same amount all the time. I’m on a 2 Year Fixed Energy Plan - is that one price for electricity at any time of the day? Is it just Economy 7 which costs less at night? Thanks.
How do I know if I have an off-peak electricity rate?

Great question,
The 2 year fixed plan you mention is available as both a single-rate and a dual rate (Economy 7 plan). You can check which version applies in your case by logging in to your online account or OVO app (download for Android or iOS) and heading to the ‘Plan’ page.
If you’re signed up for the 2 Year Fixed Economy 7 plan this will be shown under the ‘Plan name’ with the peak and off-peak prices shown under your electricity ‘unit rate’ header.
Even if you’re on the single rate version of the plan there may still be environmental benefits to using energy at off-peak times. Check out the ‘Carbon forecast’ menu option to see the carbon intensity on the national grid, throughout the next 48 hours which might help you decide the best time to programme the washing machine.
Let us know if you’ve got any more questions, we’re always happy to help. 🙂
