Looking for an easy way to know how green the grid is right now?

We’ve launched a new way for you to understand if it’s a good time to use energy. To find out how green the grid is right now - all you need to do is ask Alexa.

“Alexa, open OVO Power Nap.”

Alexa will tell you when there’s more renewable energy on the grid, so you can use your energy at greener times of the day.

Tried this on my Alexa device and it all works okay. However, the presenter sounded less than enthusiastic about power move and the delivery did not encourage you to want the hear more or return the following day. A little more punchy and precise delivery is required along with a “Go for it” message to encourage people to participate.

It’s a good idea about Alexa the only thing is we all don’t have these gadgets to rely on. l not paying out to let me know when times are more sufficient .

Greener times are also posted on the Ovo app or the website if, like me, you don't use Alexa

No l got more things to worry about then that. anyway maybe life is hard sometimes but not to worry less you have to.

It’s excellent! Going to have a nap now. zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Everytime I have accessed the Power Nap on alexa it’s told me it’s time for a nap, even during a power up move… so I’m not convinced it works.
seems point less unless it gives accurate information

I’ll raise this to the team @HJRea & report back what they say.

Hey @HJRea,

I’ve had a response from the team:

The Power Nap Alexa skill has been set up to use live carbon intensity data (source - https://www.nationalgrideso.com/future-energy/our-progress-towards-net-zero/carbon-intensity-dashboard).Power Move Flex is part of the CrowdFlex trial aimed at understanding how households can be called upon by the Electricity Systems Operator to help manage demand on the grid.  Therefore, our Power Up and Power Down events are set by the Electricity Systems Operator and align with typical times of low demand (Power Up events) and high demand (Power Down events). As the Power Nap Alexa skill & Power Up/Down events are using different data sources, there may be times where they contradict each other. But remember - Power Move Flex is just a trial aimed at learning how we can manage demand on the grid.

Ok thanks.

i think it would be good if the power ap could set up an alert in the morning so we know whether or not to power up or down for the day. It currently only seems to offer a review at the end of the week.
