Now sure how I'll get on with the new Power Move Flex

So I've been chosen to take part in the new Power Flex.

I've had no problem hitting targets on the Power Move and the Power Move Plus but not so sure about this one.

If it's anything like the past Power Move Plus events

it seems counter intuitive to try to use more electricity for such little rewards.

Yeah, I got an email stating I was picked for a control group for this.

The only reason I opted in was the possibility of gaining credit from the events, but it seems the control group is just for comparison and doesn't get to partake in the events.

I can't even find how to opt out of it now.

I’d say it’s probably best you don’t opt-out. After all, there could be a reward for being in the Control Groups.

Hey @Lucky2,

Excited to hear that you’ve received the email to take part! As you’re a previous user of Power Move and Power Move Plus you’ll be in a great position to give feedback on the new offer. You can take part in Flex while still taking part in Power Move so you’ll not lose anything by taking part. You can find more information at https://www.ovoenergy.com/power-move-flex.

@Baladar Have you received the same email as @Lucky2? You would be rewarded for participating in the challenge as a smaller customer group participates. If everything is successful, I don’t see any reason this wouldn’t be made available to all eligible customers. Let us know if you have any different information and I can look into this for you.

Keep us updated on your progress.

My email is slightly different than Lucky's.

It states:

"You have been randomly selected for the control group for the first series of events running from May to July.

It's a really important role as it helps us check people are actively taking part in the events.

You won't be asked to make any changes to your electricity use, or earn bill credit, but you'll still be helping create a greener, more effective energy grid."

I can't earn any bill credit for this which is the main reason I tried to sign up for it in the first place. Since I can't get any credit, how do I opt out as I'll just stay with ordinary Power Move where I can earn bill credit.

You don’t need to opt-out if you’re in the Control Group - you can just ignore everything PMF related.

And besides, it’s also possible you might get switched from the Control Group to an active one mid-trial, allowing you to start earning rewards. If you opt-out now, you WILL lose your place permanently for the rest of the trial and won’t ever get to find out if you could have earned something.

So, is there no way to opt out of this then?

You can do so via any of the emails you receive that relate to it.

HOWEVER

By doing so, you lose out on ever getting credits, even if you may have been invited to another Group later.

ONLY opt-out if you are absolutely 1,000,000,000% sure you DO NOT want anything to do with PMF, ever and you’re absolutely certain you don’t care about ever getting reward credits. You will not get a second chance.

As I’ve mentioned previously, there’s a chance you might have your Group changed in the next cycle i.e. from August.

Just had my 1st Power Move Flex. Hardly seems worth it for 0.05 every kWh saved, and very unlikely as I am already participating in the Power Move.

Hey @Baladar

I took your questions to the team, who confirmed that they are using a control group to compare data against active users. They have shared a FAQ page with more information on control group participants. Although you won’t earn credits like others participating in the trial, you could be invited as part of the control group to take part in the trial. They’ve advised you should have received a welcome email with instructions to opt-out should you wish to do so.

I would say you’re not going to lose anything by participating, and it allows you to be part of the trials we run in the future before they go live on the broader customer pool. I would encourage you to try it for now, but I would understand if you choose to bow out. We thank you for considering helping shape how our rewards work for customers 🙂

@Lucky2 if we look at you as a trial member, the times quoted for the power down fall within the Power Move times. If you also look at the FAQ page under section 11 it confirms any credit earned is over and above the credit earned on Power Move. If you “power down” between 6-8 you would fall under both challenges. The reward offered will vary it won’t be the same for the whole trial so keep an eye on email updates.

I appreciate you taking the time to give us feedback as it’s extremely valuable at these trial stages. If you have another more questions I’m happy to take them away and get answers directly from the team.
