Hi, I have a smart meter that was installed by EDF. The WAN is blinking ever 5 seconds. EDF said that they cannot commission the meter due to signal. They say they cannot inform the DCC as they have not been able to commission. However I have read that the wan blinking every 5 secs means that the smart meter (electric is communicating) I would be grateful for any insight here.
That’s correct - 5 second flash is normal.
Can you show us some photos?
The HAN is permanently green. The WAN flashes every 5 seconds. I have spoken to EDF who say they cannot commission. Thanks
Ok. How often does the HAN light flash and what colour?
The HAN is permanently green and does not flash. The WAN flashes green every 5 secs.
This is a matter for DCC and EDF to figure out. Not much you can do I’m afraid. Sorry about that
Thanks.
I have another question. Should EDF report the meter to DCC as installed even if it is not working or do they only do this when commissioned ??
Thanks
They can - and should - do it now
EDF refuse to. They say that the meters need to be commissioned to be registered. Would O be better of trying another supplier ??
Probably worth switching away then. If you want to go with OVO, you can use https://switch.ovoenergy.com - this is the same link you’d find on Google and elsewhere, and I don’t get any commission or kickback if you use this one - and nor would anyone else for that matter. The one thing that might help is that OVO does have a self-service tool for diagnostics of this type.
Otherwise, there’s options out there you can explore. Just don’t go British Gas or Scottish Power.
EDF has said that the meters are down as “pending” on the DCC database, as they have not been commissioned. Does this make sense ?? Thanks
Hmm… That’s not a good state…
This needs to be chased up, either by EDF or your new supplier if you were to switch.

Hi Jubilee,
I know this is an old thread, but did you get anywhere with this? I am in the same position. EDF installed 2 years ago. I have the slow WAN flash, but it will not commission. I have been in touch a few weeks ago, but no solution yet.
I am VERY keen to get it sorted as I now have and electric vehicle and am soom having air source heating installed. It will cost me about £80/month extra to charge my car and heat the water if I cannot access the cheap overnight tariffs.
Not sure what to do next.
Thanks,
Gibble
Hey
I have a tool for this. Try https://homebrew.n3rgy.com . Please check there to see what’s happening with your setup. Feel free to tells us here about any warnings or errors too (or anything unexpected) - all we ask is please redact your MPAN/MPRN and any other personal info.

Thanks Blastoise for replying so quickly. I have no idea what the info means, but the dates are correct. Does this mean it is communicating with DCC? There are no errors, just warnings about expiry of firmware/security. I have attached image.
Sorry for the wait! Had a lot of IRL stuff over the weekend.
I think EDF needs to forcefully recommission your site from scratch. If they won’t do that, then a meter swap might be needed. It looks like no-one ever bothered to do it properly in the first place...

Thanks for your help. They claim to have tried again to commission it a few weeks ago at my request, with no success. I'm now waiting for someone to get back in touch for a site visit.
My 3 year fix comes to an end on 1st April. Think I'll give EDF until then and switch supplier if no further forward. Hopefully a new supplier will get onto it better.
