Good Afternoon, I am looking for some advice. So I had a smart meter installed on the 20th Aug 2024. And to my disappointment I received an IHD3, I am pay monthly direct debit. So not prepay version. I'm very computer savvy as such. I have emailed twice to complaints department asking why I did not receive the newer IHD6. As in there home user booklet. And I feel I am being fobbed off, With emails from OVO saying that that the above mentioned is perfectly fine and compatible. And unfortunately thats basically what we are giving out. I understand that the IHD3 I have is as they say. All you need!! How do I get a more upto date version? At least a new improved IHD6 or an IHD7.

 

Do I have to buy one? And can the home user activate it?

Hi @WeeMarky , stock does vary and they tend to issue what they have available (as you already said).

You can’t buy an IHD6 or 7 as such yourself but the manufacturers do have a version called ivie - which is basically the same thing. It needs to be paired so they would do this from your meter detail. 
Another option is the Glow from Hildebrand (in my opinion a better option)

It may also be worth mentioning that ALL variants of the Chameleon IHD3, IHD6 and IHD7 work for Pay Monthly setups. If you’ve got PAYG, you need a variant with PPMID functionality to fully utilise the device, but it should still do the basics regardless.

Likewise, the ivie Bud, Hildebrand Glow IHD and pretty much ALL Geo Trio/Geo Trio II IHDs also work fine on Pay Monthly. Out of these, only the ivie Bud totally lacks a PPMID option if memory serves.
