Does electricity use on the weekend count towards total usage for the month in the Power Move challenge?

No. Only Monday to Friday 

National and Bank Holidays don't count either which is good to know with Christmas and Boxing Day falling on Monday and Tuesday this year!

If it’s on the OVO Forum, a Forum Moderator can swing by and pop a note in the thread. If it’s on any other page of any OVO site, they’ll be able to ping a message over to the right team and request a fix.

There's a lot of disinformation about this from contributors which can make things confusing. Some customers seem to think the Power Move scheme is compulsory, one suggesting he would have to invent ways of increasing off peak consumption to meet the target and hoping the rewards would pay for his additional usage. Wow!!

Even if you are in the scheme, there are no penalties for not achieving the percentages.

Everyone needs to take a breath. These schemes are widespread amongst suppliers with the sole purpose of reducing demand on the grid during peak hours. Whether you get rewarded or not doesn't really matter to them. If everyone is frantically trying then they are achieving their goals.

If you're a customer however the a few pounds discount for three months really ain't worth having a nervous breakdown over!

Indeed. The whole idea of the scheme is NOT to deliberately waste ridiculous amounts of power all day and then plunge yourself into darkness at precisely 4pm. The idea of the scheme is merely to MOVE some of your existing heavy usage out of the 4pm to 7pm slot to other parts of the day.

By doing so correctly both within the intention, rules and spirit of OVO Power Move, meeting the targets is actually a piece of cake. Correctly moving that power will both increase your Off-Peak and decrease your Peak usage at the same time - which will significantly contribute to meeting the goal. It’s easier than you think!

I’m sorry to say this, but to those of you who are gaming the system… Shame on you.

I suppose it could be clearer: the peak-hour usage for all weekdays in the month is added together and compared to the total usage for all weekdays. The figures for each individual day aren’t important, although they are being used for illustrative purposes as I saw in today’s email about the success of the Summer challenge. You can’t, as I saw suggested somewhere, take the average of each day’s percentage to find the overall figure for the month.
 

As others have said, Mon to Fri and  not bank holidays.  When I tried before I came nowhere near the target. I've decided to move anything possible.from the weekends to Monday to Friday and see if that makes any difference. Last year wandering around in the dark and avoiding hot drinks just made me depressed

Please stop moving high use energy from the weekends to weekdays. The grid is as far as I can see much ‘greener’ at weekends ie there is less carbon emitted to create electricity. That’s the time we should be using washing machines etc rather than during the week. This morning, Sunday 28th October, electricity production is fantastically  low carbon. Check out regions on the National Grid ESO app.

If you visit Energy insights/carbon forecasts on the website you will see that there are many times during the week too when there are plenty of low usage periods available outside of the 4-7pm period. It is trying to organise cooking/running the washing machine/dishwasher etc during those weekday low usage periods that is the object of Power Move as I see it and OVO is prepared to reward customers for their efforts. 

Yes there are periods of low carbon emissions during the week, but the weekend is regularly low carbon. There used to be an energy company that gave a lower tariff on a Sunday, maybe OVO could do that. @Tim_OVO ??

I agree it makes no sense moving to they week days, but if I want to have any chance of benefitting from this I have to do my washing etc Mon to Friday. Take heart as I still use it off peak ie between midnight and 6 am. 

It’s really more those who deliberately waste power that I’m naming and shaming. Those who make a genuine effort to play fair don’t come under the same banner

Just now (09:30 on 30 October), my region’s generation mix seems to be anything but green: 50% gas, 25% coal. 
  

It won’t get any greener until after midnight tonight, which means I should really stay dirty, postpone my morning shower and risk not meeting the PM target today. What would you advise?

Haha I read that as ‘not meeting the PM today’ !! Obv it wasn’t just the clocks that went back yesterday 🤦‍♀️ You could have had two showers yesterday…

It’s a shame that the weekends are not included in overall usage, as the weekends are in general “greener” than weekdays. It’s unfortunate that the scheme inadvertently incentivise customers to move high usage activities away from these green weekend days.

The purpose of the scheme is to encourage customers to move their usage to times where the grid is greenest, away from peak times. The reason for this is we want to ease pressure on the grid so that less fossil fuels are burnt. Which is why the focus is on weekdays.

I understand that the purpose is to incentivise customers to move to greener times. My point is that since weekends are in general greener than weekdays, it’s counterproductive to not have these days included in the overall usage.

If I need to do a lot of laundry, doing it on a weekday outside of peak hours will help me towards achieving the target. If I instead choose to do it on a weekend (which are in general greener), it will not help me towards the target.
