Morning @Micky180 and a warm welcome to the OVO Forum!

Sorry for the issues you’re experiencing with scheduling payments. This should definitely be an available option! It might be that we’re experiencing app issues, or there could be background issues with PayPoint. Are you seeing error messages when you try and set up the scheduled payment? Feel free to send across some screenshots, just make sure that you don’t include any personal information in them, eg full name / OVO account number/ bank details.

I’d also recommend deleting the OVO Top Up App from your device and downloading it again - it might be that you are using an outdated app version. Let us know how you get on, if we can’t help here you might need to contact our Support Team.

Hi @Micky180 ,

I’ve heard whispers that the Paypoint system tends to choke on those, you may find it easier to set a calendar reminder in your phone and top-up manually

I believe that it's simply because PAYG meters were never meant to operate that way.
They are meant so you can pay as you need to, not on a schedule.

If fact older PAYG meters couldn't operate that way, you had to top up a key at the shops then put it in the meter.

Presumably if if you are setting up a scheduled payment then it's coming out of your bank.
A scheduled payment from a bank is a Direct Debit (or a Standing Order).
So you would use a credit account, with DD's set up to pay on schedule.

Technically it should be possible with a smart meter in PAYG mode to make scheduled bank payments, but I can’t think of any supplier who has their smart PAYG set up to do that - because they already have other types of account for customers to make scheduled payments, Direct Debit accounts.

I can see why the question might arise if you are in a rental with a PAYG meter, and don't want the hassle of topping up.
However even in a rental the tenant can get the meter changed to a credit meter and pay by DD, (or to a smart PAYG so they can top up onlne without having to go to the shops) - the landlord can't block a tenant from changing the meter type if the energy account is in the tenants name .
