We all know the price of energy is gas and oil is increasing and for some reason the price of renewable electricity is being hiked up too but why is my Standing charge going to increase from 22p to 37p when my current plan expires? This seems like extortionate opportunism by OVO and i would like them to justify it . The online option to contact them has been removed so I am trying this forum for an answer.

The standing charges cover a range of costs faced by suppliers. These include network costs for running and maintaining the system, the supplier of last resort scheme and the warm home discount scheme.
The supplier of last resort scheme makes up the main part of the increase in electricity standing charges as every household is having to pay for rescuing customers from failed suppliers.
Network energy reforms have also moved some charges that used to form part of the unit rate onto the standing charge.
