apparent massive surge of power on the Solis app

Can anyone please explain why suddenly a few days again the solis app started showing a massive surge of power from the grid, see below

Hi, I presume you’re looking at the spike in the top screenshot for 9/4.

At the level of 145kW, that wouldn’t be possible via a domestic supply and you can see the spike at the same level each side of zero. (Domestic supplies are limited to 80 or 100A for single phase which equates to approx 23kW)

I would guess this is a glitch rather than a true surge which could be caused by the CT or data cable picking up an external emf signal. You should be able to confirm by looking at your energy input via your meter and account.

Thank you for the reply. I presumed it was some form of glitch or we would have gone up in smoke! Any idea how we stop it? Thank you very much

As @BPLightlog said it has to be an instrumentation error either in the electronics or a processing error in the software. Suggest you contact the manufacturer to see if they have seen anything like this before. They might have a hardware fix or software update that can be applied.

If it occurs infrequently and radomly it is highly unlikely the manufacturer will have an explanation or a fix for it. Is there a forum where you can ask other users of the system?

If it happens very infrequently it’s safe to ignore .. you can just check the position of the CT and cabling just to ensure they haven’t slipped. Ours look like this

You can see that the twin cable connecting to the CT doesn’t use twisted pair cable (twisted pair cable is often used in data connections to reduce external electrical noise). It is therefore susceptible to nearby pulses such as power tools or generators

Just checked historic lightning records for this morning and there is nothing recorded in the UK but it doesn't record everything.

https://www.blitzortung.org/en/live_lightning_maps.php

You can select historic data data and time and watch it on a loop over a period of time.

Hey @Whitwop

I’m glad to hear this! Hopefully it stays that way but do feel free to pop back any time if you’ve got any other questions.😊
