We’ve just bought our EV and having the Hyper Volt Pro 3 installed today. Do we need the OVO Anytime App where we can connect the app to the car (our EV is a compatible Volvo XC 40 Recharge), or do we connect the HV charger to the EV?

Hello everyone

We’ve just bought our EV and having the Hyper Volt Pro 3 installed today. I’m a little confused  if we need the Ovo Anytime App where we can connect the app to the car (our EV is a compatible Volvo XC 40 Recharge), or do we connect the HV charger to the EV, in which case will the HV charger now when it’s best to charge at the greenest charging rates? According to the FQA you can do either?? Not sure what to do. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey @KET !

My advice would be to connect the Charger to Charge Anytime as Hypervolt Pro 3 is now supported. You’ll need to use the Charge Anytime app to do this as that Charger is still on trial. Once connected, it’ll do the work for you once you set up a schedule in the CA app.

You do NOT want the EV hooked up to Charge Anytime at all in this particular setup.

Hi thanks for your reply.

We’re got connected to CA app ok. This already has a schedule installed to be ready 7.00 - which is fine. So essentially we could plug the car up to charge at 4.00pm, without changing the installed schedule, and would the CA app then charge anytime from 4.00pm to the scheduled 7am using greener energy? My perception of greener energy charging would ordinarily be over night?

Lastly we have the Hyper Volt app - under my husband’s credentials as he has the Ovo account for energy. Do you know if it’s possible for both of us to have the HV app but using his login information? I believe you cant have two user accounts? Or is this a question for HV directly?  Apologies for so many questions

Yup! That’s correct. You can also change the schedule whenever you want and the system will still find the greenest times to run the charge. As long as you let it run on Smart/Scheduled Charging, you’ll get the 7p/kWh Charge Anytime rate.

The greenest times to charge are in fact not always overnight - but Charge Anytime will find those slots so you don’t have to.

DO NOT hit Urgent/Boost Charge unless you need to charge the EV NOW and are willing to pay full rate for it.

As for your other question, to save you time I’ve just put that one through to Hypervolt and literally just got the answer back. You are welcome to use their app and the same login details on several devices at once regardless of who owns each device, so long as the devices are used by people who live at the same address as the charger that should be fine. Just make sure you don’t share the password with anyone elsewhere!

Thank you so much for your efficiency and speedy replies to all my questions - there were a lot! And for contacting HV directly. You’ve made our transition to EV life understandable! It’s much appreciated and we’ll let you know how we get on with or HV charger.

Hello again

I have more questions regarding charging and Hypervolt charger.
We charged our car for the first time last night and I was fully expecting a full charge. Our car App showed only 56% charge and only working at 2.3Kwh and 10amps. After investigating a setting needed altering in our car to 32amps to a higher 7Kwh to work. However when looking at the Hypervolt App there’s a message saying ‘Max current can’t be changed while OVO Mode is enabled’ - see image below. So do OVO Mode mean the OVO system will choose the charging KWh? Other users of the Hypervolt App can change this setting to 32amps though not sure who their electricity supplier is?

Hey, welcome back!

With Charge Anytime active, that setting is controlled automatically based on the current conditions. Whenever possible, it will get cranked up to full speed automatically, but some charges may have to run at a lower rate for a longer period. The system will still aim to hit your targets by the set time whenever possible though.

Hope this helps!

Did the installer demonstrate it working? You may have to involve them as well.

He has demonstrated that the hypervolt setup has stalled at framware point 2627.0 and it needs to go to 2927

I called hypervolt who said that all will be sorted in 30 minutes…. That was an hour ago… I’ll wait a few hours and try again.

If it doesn’t resolve, have a word with Hypervolt again - they can do further remote diagnostics if needed.

The system was still off line 7 hours after my call on Saturday so I called again. The lady did some investigations and said that the charger was detecting voltage spikes and drops, thus preventing the update.I left everything until Sunday morning and when I checked, everything seemed to be working. I haven’t got my Ev yet so I don’t know if it will ok until I try.So I’m all set…. Hopefully.

Yup, that makes sense. I suspect the charger was trying to protect itself from a failed/corrupted firmware update so I can see why it wasn’t happy to run one.

Shows you that Hypervolt takes care of making their stuff reliable!
